Alright, I spent some time looking around his site -- there is a lot there. Can you narrow it down? Link?

One must study to break the internet cliches. One common error is to assume the average is what always happens as compared to being prepared for a reasonable cutoff in the more extreme ends of the critical incident distribution.

That's true but if you're prepared for the median then you're prepared for at least half of the incidents.

Tom Givens does have some interesting statistics. I think he has around 60 students who won gunfights and two students who were killed. The two killed weren't armed that day so that shows the importance of the first rule of gunfights. Also, his school is in Memphis which has something like 10% of the justifiable homicides in the USA, so he also has those gunfights to analyze.

One story I heard Tom tell about a student was a man sitting on a lawn chair at his momma's house on the weekend, with his nieces and nephews playing in the yard. Some teen came by and started hassling the little kids so the man stood up and told him to leave. He leaves and the man goes back to reading. A little while later, he hears a shot and the yoot has returned and is taking potshots at him from across the street. Remember there are little kids playing on the lawn. The man jumps up and runs to the driveway, so now the shots are coming only at him with no little ones in the crossfire. The man then draws his own gun and shoots the yoot to stop the threat. The distance was 25-30 feet if I remember right.

I just wanted to give a little correction. It was a 22 YARD shot that hit the BG in the center of the chest.

You can get a DVD of Tom going over in detail 9 of the self defense shooting that his students have been involved in. He gives a good lessons learned analysis of each one. This really needs to be added to the list of approved CHL class videos.

One time I was on my uncle's property and me, my brother, and two cousins were shooting down at his creek. Good backstop and all that. Anyway we've been blasting away for about ten to twenty mins or so. Well we were on a part of the creek where the other side had about a 15-20 ft cliff on the other side. We are shooting down into the creek on a sand bar. Well I hear this four wheeler drive up down the river a hundred yards, then I see this guy just bust out of the brush blasting a shotgun into the air about four or five times. Anyway he looks at us with this surprised look on his face, said something like "Nevermind sorry", and then ducked back into the brush. Four wheeler starts up and drives off.

To this day I wonder what he was doing. We had shot down there MANY times before. We had excellent backstop and I know no rounds were fired over the top of the cliff. We were shooting enough that I know he couldn't think we were hunting. I still wonder to this day just what the heck he thought he was doing.

Anyway funny thing about it was I was the only one that grabbed cover as soon as he busted out of the brush with a shotgun. My relatives all just stood there and watched him. I was behind a truck with my M1A frantically trying to get some rounds into an M1A mag I had just emptied. The guy never shot at us and I'm glad for that. I'd hate to have to shoot back when I had no idea what the heck he was even blasting about. However seeing as we were on our side of the creek, shooting in a very safe maner, I don't think he would have had any provocation to use force against us so i probably would have fired back had he started shooting at my relatives.

Mas Ayoob took a 100 yard shot on the show. He was showing the importance of being ready in any situation albeit that anything that long would be extremely rare. It was an amazing shot...seated with a shooting bag if I remember correctly and knocked the target down.
