We homeschool, but it's a valid question that I have often wondered. . .sjfcontrol wrote:Home Schooling!Dave2 wrote:Wait, what? Am I reading this right? But on Friday, the school was on lockdown for about 45 minutes, KPRC reports, concerned Cotton-Noel would return and do harm.
Just for my own edification, if I ever have kids and they're in a school that's "locked-down" because officials believe someone is on their way to the school to start killing people, what's the best way to get my hypothetical children out?
If a school is on "lockdown" (for something like this or severe weather), can you go and retrieve your own kids? What recourse do you have in that moment if you want custody of your children? Is a "lockdown" a legally protected event where thousands of kids can be detained away from their parents without a warrant "for their own safety"?
Without knowing the law, my inclination is that it's akin to refusing services from an ambulance or hospital. They'll make it sound like you don't have a choice, but they can't physically restrain you and prevent you from leaving. In the school case, if they can detain you until they give the "all clear", then all I can say is, "Wow" and shake my head.
