RIP Adam Yauch
I'm sure only a small handful of us will know who this is, but Adam Yauch (aka MCA) was 1/3rd of the Beastie Boys. He passed away @ the age of 47 today after a battle with cancer.
Most people know their big radio hits and hip hop music, but the Beastie Boys were also accomplished musicians. Adam, and the rest of the Beasties, made quite an impression during their time.

You apparently have to be somewhat young to know who Adam was. Many of my younger facebook friends are upset. My son I know had one of their album. I think there was a 727 on the cover. RIP

I was a junior in HS when they hit the main scene. My very good friend Sean turned me on to their early punk works. I still have some old cassettes and they get a lot of play time on my iPod.

If I was still young and irresponsible, I'd have some Brass Monkey to drink tonight.

Re: RIP Adam Yauch
I was deeply saddened to hear this as well. The Beastie Boys were a big part of my teenage years. Lots of memories attached to those songs.
Rest in peace, MCA.

License To Ill was the first cassette I ever bought. The Beasties made ground breaking contributions to music and helped (for better or worse) to pull Hip Hop into the main stream. MCA will be missed by this CHL holder.

I saw that on an afternoon news segment. I didn't even know he'd been sick.

It's amazing how much an album or track can conjure up memories of ones youth. I was an impressionable 7 year old kid living in Queens when the Beastie Boys started coming up and it was fun to see them take off like a rocket when Licensed to Ill came out. Paul's Boutique is my *favorite* Beastie Boys album though. I'm sure I look goofy blasting it in my truck, decked out in camo, when I'm coming back from hunting.Heartland Patriot wrote:I was one of a VERY small handful of kids in my little South Texas town to listen to these guys way back when...I have "Paul's Boutique" on cassette, but I downloaded it on iTunes today...its still good.
Later on, as my musical tastes changed, I found myself really digging their instrumental stuff. The In Sound From Way Out never leaves my truck.
