This 60-y-o newbie carries the XDM 3.8compact 9mm using a 13-round mag -- IWB -- using a Triple T Holster that I just bought a week ago. While I am most aware that I am carrying, I do not notice that it is there.

At 5' 7'' and 170 Ibs, I do not have too much "natural concealment." -- It is not too heavy on my off-the-rack Western belt. The holster is worn inside either a pair of dress slacks or blue jeans, on a 1-inch-larger-than- normal waist size. To cover it, I wear either a sport coat or Western-style vest [one-size larger than normal.

The only one who told me he saw that I was carrying is a LEO who knows that I do, and he was looking specifically. [He did not note the LC9 in pocket though.]

That horse is worth flogging!

A good gunbelt can make a crappy holster comfortable, but a crappy gunbelt will make a great holster uncomfortable.

Make no mistake, a heavy work belt, or a Carhart belt, or a heavy western belt is not equal to a good gunbelt.

I've paid anywhere from $100+ for a top-of-the-line Beltman belt to $2.98 for clearance rack 5.11 gunbelts. If it is designed and sold as a gunbelt, it will be worth wearing.

BTW, my usual carry is a 42 oz (empty) full size 1911 with 2 spare magazines. I'll also carry sometimes a Para 14-45 with 2 spare mags. I think the 43 rounds of 230 gr .45 ACP plus the 3 magazines weigh as much as the gun (43 rounds of .45 ACP weighs about 30 oz.)!

Ditto on the carry ability. I even carry my xd9sc in my pocket with certain shorts that have the deeper length. Never been a problem with the size or weight.

Thanks for all the info. I feel more confidant about being able to carry the XD9SC now.

Your alternatives are to go to something even smaller and less capable. Some do in a pinch when they are traveling light or wardrobe prohibits carrying something in 9mm or larger, but they probably don't do it for very long. I know I was a little thrown off by the weight at first, but figured I should get over it because, well, how light could it really get or how light would I really want it to be. I am carrying a gun, originally a .40, but now a .45 and I have chosen to carry two extra mags. That's not going to be light weight.
