An odd parallel to the Trayvon Martin case
Re: An odd parallel to the Trayvon Martin case
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

c-dub. You are right although I believe he was pounding the driver through an open window. That's why I noted that we need to wait to see the facts.

Your confusion is caused by words hispanic and Latino being used incorrectly in common usage. Hispanic is not a race. Neither is latino. Hispanic simply means you're from or have origins from a Spanish speaking country. The white guy walking down the street in Uruguay, the black guy on the beach in the Dominican Republic, and the mestizo farmer in Mexico are all Hispanic. Likewise latino just means you're from or have origins in a nation that speaks a romance language. Venezuelans, Haitians, Italians, and Romanians are all equally latino. The fact that their citizens are majority mestizo, black, white, and white respectively has nothing to do with it. The race term term that most people incorrectly use hispanic for is actually Mestizo. Someone of mixed European and Amerindians heritage. That being said, there's a good statistical chance that the majority of Z's genetic make up is white, assuming his dad's is mostly European. I hope this isn't written too badly, I'm on my phone in class.
Also unless they specify a race, anyone who simply answers hispanic on the census is counted as white.

Ha! I did not know that! Apparently my 1/2 Italian husband and 1/4 italian children can claim a "protected status". How very very funny! Additionally how ridiculous. I am of the opinion that there is one race in this world , human. Everything else is culture and variations on the human norm.KingofChaos wrote:Oldgringo wrote:Exactly!Lambda Force wrote:I think the media knew their manufactured news wouldn't go anywhere if they reported a 15-30yo black male killed by a 15-30yo hispanic male.Oldgringo wrote:Another white Hispanic, eh?

I didn't sensationalize and twist the story. You have me confused with someone who is trying to generate ratings/money through biased and race-baiting reporting. BTW, what class are you in?KingofChaos wrote:Oldgringo wrote:Exactly!Lambda Force wrote:I think the media knew their manufactured news wouldn't go anywhere if they reported a 15-30yo black male killed by a 15-30yo hispanic male.Oldgringo wrote:Another white Hispanic, eh?

You got to get up mighty early in the morning to offend me; ergo, none taken. It's a mighty long commute from Houston to Boston College, ain't it?KingofChaos wrote:I'm sorry If I said anything to offend you. That wasn't my intention. Just trying to shed some light. Re: An odd parallel to the Trayvon Martin case
That's true, and that pesky old "human nature" gets in the way all the time. Humans will always defend/protect/side with their family, ethnicity, tribe, country, state, city, religion, and anything else that is the most familiar to them. That will never change.mamabearCali wrote: I am of the opinion that there is one race in this world , human. Everything else is culture and variations on the human norm.

There wouldn't happen to be a "lives in" category in the profile would there?Oldgringo wrote:You got to get up mighty early in the morning to offend me; ergo, none taken. Re: An odd parallel to the Trayvon Martin case
Was a minor traffic accident. Shooter was in a company vehicle and wanted to call the police so that a police report could be filed. The guy that got shot didn't like that and started pounding on him through his car window. The shooter responded with a bullet (.357 if I remember correctly) to his attackers chest. The DA did take the case and he was no-billed by the grand jury. Two things helped the shooter win that. 1 being that he shot center mass, and 2 the first thing he did after shooting was step out of his vehicle and yell for witnesses to call an ambulance and applied pressure to the mans wound.C-dub wrote:I think this is kind of how the first CHL shooting happened here in Texas. A small guy in a car had done something to upset a very large man in another car and the large guy got out and preceded to beat on the little guy, who ended up shooting and killing the larger guy. I think the little guy was no billed due to the disparity of size and capability of the larger guy to smash the little guy that thought he was going be killed by the larger guy.stroo wrote:Shooter was in his car. Adkins swung his fists at him a couple of times. Hard to see how he could have been in danger of his life, but who knows what the real facts are.
Have to wait to see how the facts develop.
The Grand Jury determined that the shooter demonstrated that he was in fact not trying to kill his attacker but only to stop him. The shooter suffered partial loss of vision in his left eye I believe which given the severity of that, proved that he was in fear for his life. I believe that DA's across the state have lightened up a bit and it is no longer required that one get the snot beat out of themselves before shooting. Not that it ever was.

If that's true then stereotype comments about Hispanics can't be racist. By definition.KingofChaos wrote:Your confusion is caused by words hispanic and Latino being used incorrectly in common usage. Hispanic is not a race. Neither is latino.
