WTS/WTT Glock 23 - Just purchased new but changed mind

#1

Post by pmcdn »

I just bought a brand new Glock 23 two days ago and now wish I had gotten the G27 or similar for the sub compact size. I haven't fired the gun and I have box, lock, all papers, both mags, etc. and receipt. I'm a CHL and would prefer a firearms bill of sale.

I'd like to sell it or trade for a nice G27 or sub compact Glock 45.

Asking $489 if you know anyone looking for one of these.

Thanks!

Might I recommend finding a range and trying out the 27 before you make what might be another mistake?

I'll admit up front that until about two years ago, I knew virtually nothing about hanguns. I had decided to take the CHL class when my church offered it, just because it was something on my "do someday list". After the class ended, several of us went and looked at guns at Cheaper Than Dirt nearby. I remember looking at the Glock 9mm subcompact, and actually saying out loud "That's a cute gun". We all laughed about how that's a pretty non-macho reason for buying a gun, I started looking into them, anticipating that I'd eventually buy a gun and start carrrying.

The armed security guards I work with warned me about the smaller grip on the Glock sub-compacts (I'm a pretty big guy). One was pretty adamant about looking beyond a 9mm, along with some warnings about what type of ammo to carry. Frankly, I was a bit befuddled for a while. I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted, but their arguments seemed to make sense.

Early this year, I found a range that rented guns, and had the opportunity to try both the G23 and the G27 before buying. I was shocked at the difference. The guards were right about the grip, it was too small in my hand, but I was prepared to buy the clip extenders if I needed. I also knew that it was going to more less accurate, but I was shocked at how much so. I suspect that would improve with practice, but the first couple clips I put through the 27 had some rounds completely missing the target at 7 yards, while I was able to keep a nice grouping with the 23. The biggest surprise though was the recoil on the 27. I didn't expect that at all. Much harder on my wrist. After asking the guys at work about it, they explained the reasons (like I said, I'm new to handguns).

After shooting both (and the full size 40mm, as well as the full size 9mm), I decided the 23 was the right gun for me. So far, it's been easy to conceal, is comfortable, and fits nicely in my hand.

You may end up preferring the 27, but I think it would be good for you to actually shoot both.

Thanks! I appreciate your input.

Yeah, the small grip is something I am considering, but I have small hands.

I like my G23 and it feels great in my hand. The reason I am considering a G27 or similar is that I often carry in my pocket with a pocket holster. In this weather, I wear shorts a lot (like cargo pants style shorts, not running shorts) and if I put the G23 in my front pocket, it fits ok but you can see the butt of the handle a bit if my shirt isn't covering.

I carry a G23 and a G27. I shoot both of them the same. I am a large man. With larger hands I find I can shoot with 2 fingers and the grip just fine. Look up YouTube and a man's videos " hickok45" and he has no problem with baby Glocks either.

His videos convinced me to try it. After several trips to the range no problem. You have to do what is comfortable for you.

If you're wanting to pocket carry, I'd strongly recommend looking for a single stack with compact or subcompact grip. Take a look at the Kahr P40 (much thinner & lighter than G27, but similar barrel length and a full hand grip is possible). The Kahr PM40 is also a good option, but will leave pinky wondering - which doesn't bother me one bit! Other single stacks are out there, but I'm sold on Kahr products!

Best of luck in your decision :tiphat:
