How many of your friends and family.....

How many of your friends and family members know that you carry? If they do know is it because you told them of they found out some other way? Do you make it public that you have a CHL or do you keep it to yourself?

My whole family knows. It's nice because I don't have to worry about becoming unconcealed at family functions. Little ones are always jumping on me and such. They know because I didn't think it was some big secret to hide.

Everybody in my family except my mother knows. My brothers (who live in California as does my mother) are mildly jealous because they can't, and moderately amused because I do. My mother, who is a survivor of a Nazi invasion and Allied liberation, won't even let the word "gun" be uttered in her home in conversation. (It's amazing to me just how illiberal liberals are.) She's convinced that guns simply enable evil, and she's unwilling to admit that guns also prevent it. But then, she's into that whole one-worlder thing.....and is not terribly concerned about the price in human liberty necessary to achieve it.

As far as my friends go, most of them know, but then most of them are also shooting buddies....and I don't have that many friends. I have lots of acquaintances whith whom I'm friendly. But my friends list is fairly short. That said, I don't walk around with a sign on my shoulders announcing my CHL, and I'm hesitant to discuss matters of CHL, partuclarly where it concerns me personally, unless I have a sense of where the other person is coming from.

On the other hand, when a frank conversation goes in that direction, and the other person seems interested in discussing the possibility of getting a CHL, and I know that person, then I'll let the conversation naturally go toward my own CHL status if that's where it seems headed. In other words, I don't advertise it, but I'm not particularly paranoid about hiding it either. I try to let wisdom be my guide in those situations, but I also want to be an encourager of people to become gun owners if they're not already—particularly women—and when the conversation allows it, I do promote my Basic Handgun class. Invariably, when a person expresses interest in that class, they also want to know if I teach a CHL class. It was my intention to take the CHL intructors class this year, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it or not. Anyway, if the conversation goes that way, I'll recommend an instructor to them and urge them to go ahead and get their CHL.

Holy cow! I think that as the apple starting falling off the tree it got swept up in a tornado and ended up in a different zip code.

I am an instructor, I advertise my classes so by inference, those who see that I am an instructor will know that I probably am a CHL myself. I don't make a public spectacle of my advertisemts nor do I go around with my status as an instructor obvious. I'll gladly answer questions even by a stranger since they may be a potiential student, but I do not proselytize the issue. Friends, family, acquaintances and, former students all know MoJo carries and carries more than one. :thumbs2:

My family knows and my closest friends know. Some friends that are not so close also know as well but those that do know are also range partners. Those that dont know by now never will.

My family knows. A couple of my close friends and work friends know, but I made the mistake of talking about it with a friend that knew too close to a co-worker who is basically anti-gun and now every time someone talks about guns he announces that I and my co-worker have CHLs. He does it loudly, but I'm not sure that it's intentional as much as he's just too stupid to know better. I can't carry at work anyway so the point is moot.

My mom and dad know that my wife and myself are CHL holders as do my inlaws and a very few close friends. Most of my wife's family aregun fearing liberals(her brother and one or two cousins excluded) but have no problem when I am around for some reason....

I was outed by my 80 year old grandmother on my dads side at a family function once and nobody was surprised(3/4 of them were also carrying and she outed them as well) when her small arthritic frame gave them hugs and felt the large 1911 frames at the 5:00 position..

That was the safest or most dangerous(for a BG) family reunion I've ever Been to.
Chl class for me and wife=$225. Chl application fees =$280. Chl gear for 2=more $ the previous. Moving from sheep to sheepdog = priceless

My whole family knows as I think it is important to discuss it with the people I am very close to. Some of my wife's family are LEO and they know as we often talk guns and go to the range, but I have never talked about it with her other family members. I only discussed it with the LEO members because they specifically asked me on day while we were relaxing at a family function. They said that I seemed the type but could never tell if I was carrying or not and were surprised that I was carrying a full sized 1911 at the time, when they asked to see. Only a couple friends who are not family know, who are also CHL. I don't discuss it with anyone else.

Nobody knows, except for the folks here and since we don't know each other then nobody knows. Concealed means concealed. I haven't even told myself yet!

"edit" now that I think about it, maybe just maybe The Shadow knows!!
