Texas - Extra license?
Hi all,
I was wondering what the rules/laws are concerning having an extra (duplicate) CHL license as a spare.
Anyone have specific knowledge about this?
Thanks,
RL

It is against the Law to have more than one ACTIVE Texas Driver's License. Same with CHL.

Oh yeah! Only one from a state, which is more lenient than a driver's license. Only one of those, period. Expired DL's and CHL's don't count. I have a bunch of those.

Another state is a good option as an extra license.

So with an extra TX CHL out of the question, what would be an affordable/easily aquired option? ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

I don't understand the reason for your question. What is your TX CHL not doing for you?Redwood Lenny wrote:So with an extra TX CHL out of the question, what would be an affordable/easily aquired option?

Being new to my CHL I hated not being able to carry, even for a few hours.

Just remember, they can look it up, if it becomes an issue.Redwood Lenny wrote:Being new to my CHL I hated not being able to carry, even for a few hours.
While I am not saying go around without it, in the end, you should not get into any real legal troubles, if you are found without, and 1 is valid for you.

Technically the law only grants the nonapplicability while you're carrying the license. See section 46.15 of the penal code.Teamless wrote:Just remember, they can look it up, if it becomes an issue.Redwood Lenny wrote:Being new to my CHL I hated not being able to carry, even for a few hours.

Get a non-resident Utah CFP. Plus, it will add 4 states worth of reciprocity your CHL doesn't currently afford.Redwood Lenny wrote:So with an extra TX CHL out of the question, what would be an affordable/easily aquired option?

You still need your DL or State ID card so, if you misplace/loose your wallet you still can't legally carry. ![rules :rules:](./images/smilies/rules.gif)

Lol, I guess I'll just have to keep up with it. The funny thing is I haven't NOT known where my wallet is in years, the week I stick a CHL in there I misplace it. Go figure. ![Confused :???:](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

Re: Texas - Extra license?
For the sake of clarity, I don't advocate a CFP instead of a CHL, and my posting record on that is very clear. I got my CFP for exactly the reason of a) having a backup license in case I lose mine, and b) having a backup license in case there is a delay in processing or some other unforeseen circumstance which causes my current CHL to expire before having the plastic for my renewed CHL in hand. I've never advocated getting a CFP instead of a CHL. That said, I do believe that the CHL is too expensive, and Texas has a lot to learn from Arizona about the 2nd Amendment.MoJo wrote:You still need your DL or State ID card so, if you misplace/loose your wallet you still can't legally carry.
