SPEED ROCK DRILLS

#1

Post by Ranger+P+ »

Worked on some CPD's Close Protection Drills today combined with some Malfunction/Tac reload Drills. We drill on these daily when on detail, I like to do it with a partner, who doubles as the Principal, but you can do it either way.

CPD:
The core drill practiced here is presentation-getting the gun into play.
I like to drill on distances 5-15 ft, using primary and BUG. The good ole speed rock is my favorite, combined with Firing on the move while moving principal to cover.

Malfunction Drills:
If I have a 5 shot IAD drill, I will give my mag to my partner with 4 live rds and a dummy rd. He then can load the mag however he wants, your job is to adjust during the drill. I tell my partner to challenge me. Put a timer with this and you can have some fun. I suggest doing this with some movement drills and do it every time you hit the range--MURPHY IS ALIVE AND WELL.

Tac reloads:
Regardless of how you feel on this, in combat zones, it is a tactical reality.
I dont care how good you are, you are not going to remember how many rounds you have put downrange when adrenaline is surging thru you. The rule is: if the BG is still standing, when you have found hard cover, reload. Ofcourse on a minimum when on detail, I have seven mags for my primary handgun and four for my back-up, so unless you are drilling for a a problem arises situation (ie. Katrina) this may not apply.
The final weapon is the Brain, all else is Supplemental.-John Steinbeck
