This isn't exactly a hunting photo of mine.
It's a 2:37 video of Mr. Lynn Thompson of Cold Steel knives, hunting water buffalo in Australia.
He tries to kill the critter with a spear, the water buffalo fends off the spear, and the hunter
quickly draws his Ruger .454 Redhawk revolver and kills it with 4 rounds.

Buffalo caught the spear in the horn.

Good example of movement off the line of attack.
Also good example of stupidity. That spear didn't have a chance of killing that water buffalo.

So, I can't really think of a good reason to poke at something that big with a sharp stick...Much less flying to Australia to do it.
Reminds me a golfer I saw in greatwood poking an alligator with a driver.
I see this as natures way of thinning the gene pool.

If you are gonna be dumb you's better be tough or carry a .454

They were killed by spears long before gunpowder was discovered, however they bought more the one spear and one person.

'Zackly. I remember being amazed when I first heard about eskimos killing polar bears with a .22 Hornet fired from nose distance into the beast's open mouth......then someone reminded me that they used to use spears, and it all made sense.........in a desperate sort of way.....txhighlander wrote:They were killed by spears long before gunpowder was discovered, however they bought more the one spear and one person.

Yeah, I thought he was pretty selfish not inviting a couple of friends along for the hunt.txhighlander wrote:They were killed by spears long before gunpowder was discovered, however they bought more the one spear and one person.
