Wait for this to come in stock, you can't build it cheaper.

I second the Daniel Defense barrel. Have you considered going the mid-length gas system route? I will keep the cycle pressure down, and I personally think it looks more appropriate on a 16" barrel.

Also check out the BCM Gunfighter line of charging handles. I will never go back to anything else. They are like a rock.

Let me add a congratulations to your venture. I think it makes you really appreciate the machines that are firearms to put one together yourself and be fully responsible for its function. :cheers2:

The reason I got that gas block..Ok i was using ar15builder.com and when i chose other gas blocks, they were uneven with the upper receiver and were lower. For the gas tube, yeah i just realized i didnt have that. I am accepting all adivce from everyone. I have looked at a completed upper but wasn't finding what I liked.
Have a look at Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM)? I am pleased with mine and am able to get ~one inch groups at 50 yards with iron sights (I cannot see further than that with my tired old eyes) using Federal 62 grain FMJ ball ammo.

Best of luck with your build and look forward to seeing pictures when completed!

More people are suggestion a mid-lenght guard. Does a mid-lenght guard fit on a 16" barrel? I was on some site that said you couldn't..Yeah i am a noob at ARs, but ive learned quite a bit just from looking at a build..I think I have left out some things, and its prob some minor things. I can be really picky sometimes, so thats 1 reason I haven't bought an complete uppper. Also, yes I feel it will be much better to build your own AR..Like "The Annoyed Man" said in another post..You won't have the satisfaction if you buy a AR than build one. :iagree:

Also, what is the LPK :Carry-a-Kimber" is talking about?

Check out Del-ton as well. You can get a complete kit, minus the stripped lower built to your desires. It will be cheaper than buying parts individually. Also having a complete kit is a good idea for your first build.

A 16" barrel with a mid-length system is a good option. Mag-Pul makes a MOE handguard for it.

I am waiting on the parts for my 13th build right now. It will be all Mag-Pul furniture and 20" barrel flattop. Gonna make it a 3 gun platform.

The deal with the gas systems for 16" barrels is this:

-The carbine length is designed for 14" barrels and the like
-The longer the round spends in the barrel past the gas port, the more pressure builds, making the gun cycle harder
-The mid-length was designed to make a barrel to gas port ratio more in line with the rifle length barrel
-The mid-length system is more attractive because it leaves less exposed barrel, which awkwardly protrudes from a carbine forend (YMMV)
-adjustable gas blocks serve the same purpose in the over gassing department

As someone mentioned you can get a low profile adjustable gas block and a mid-length free float rail, then have the gas system neatly tucked away out of sight, no over gassing, and the whole aesthetic thing I keep harping on.

You can run any length rail on any gas system with any length barrel. The rail will either go to, stop before, or go past the gas block. I have put 15" forearms on 16"barrels and 11" forearms on 24" barrels.
