Which micro 9mm has the best trigger?

#1

Post by jmra »

I'm a Glock guy but would like to have one of the micro 9's to carry at times. Which one has the best trigger (most like Glock)?

The best trigger is the EMP. But, it is nothing like a Glock.

I agree on the trigger as it is a single action, and, although small, I don't necessarily consider the EMP a micro due to the length being over 6 inches and the weight loaded being over 24 oz (1.5 lbs).

I have a Kahr PM9 and love the trigger. Nice and smooth, no stacking, and decent length for a double-action. The CM9 is the same frame and trigger, and about $200 cheaper. :thumbs2:

Here is a good chart on comparison of size on the micro/pocket pistols http://mouseguns.com/PocketAutoComparison.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

+1 for the Kahr. I also really like the trigger on the new Beretta Nano

Define your parameters for "micros" 9mm ... the Walther PPS has a nearly identical trigger to a Glock and is thinner and lighter than a Glock 26, but not much smaller in overall heigh/length dimensions.

The Ruger LC9, Taurus 709 "slim", Kel Tec PF9, Kahr P9/CW9, Kimber Solo and a few others are not much smaller really than the PPS.

If you're wanting something considerably smaller than a subcompact Glock, then I assume you're meaning something like a Kahr PM9 or CM9 - of these two, the higher end Kahrs (IMHO) have noticeably smoother triggers but they're different than Glock - smoother all the way through the pull, but a bit "spongy" .... there's also the newer Beretta Nano (no experience) and the Sig P290 (experience limited to holding/dry firing at a gun store - DID NOT LIKE THIS WEAPON AT ALL - slide bite seems like a foregone conclusion and the trigger is horrible).

Edited to add: Oh, and the little Rohrbach 9mm pocket gun - but for the same $1,000 dollars you could buy any of the guns listed above AND have every pair of pants you own altered to pocket carry the one of the other slightly larger guns.

FWIW, I would consider any small single stack pocketable pistol in 9mm to be a "micro." This disqualifies all of the mini-Glocks except the 36, and it is disqualified by caliber if we are restricting ourselves to 9mm only. I'm not knocking the other baby Glocks–they're all good guns–but the width inherent in a double stack disqualifies them from consideration for these purposes.....

.....but that's just my 2¢.

I agree to a point - and to be clear I wasn't directly comparing the baby Glocks to the single stack guns in a "same class" way - merely using baby Glock as a starting reference point and working my way down to the smaller and smaller form factors ...

My slight disagreement with your assessment is there now seems to be two form factors of single stack subcompact 9mm on the market - easily described as the difference between the Kahr P/CW guns and the PM/CM guns (half inch difference in overall length and height, basically) with the true pocket worthy micro compact PM/CM size being smallest, generally speaking (leaving out the Rohrbach)

large single stack - Kahr P/CW, Walther PPS, Ruger LC9 etc
micros single stack - Kahr PM/CM, Beretta Nano, Sig P290, etc.

EDITED TO ADD: oh and as an aside, while it is single stack the Glock 36 is actually a larger gun overall than the "baby" Glocks 26/27/33 - it is longer and taller and only very slightly thinner - G36 is actually closer in relative size (although thinner) to a mid-size Glock 19/23/32

I would have to say I like the Kahr the best. I personally carry, as my EDC, a CW9. The smaller PM 9 is basically the exact same gun internally, just smaller. I also like, over other pocket guns, that the Kahr still includes real sights on even their smallest guns.

My CW is a bit long in the handle and barrel for a true pocket carry but I chose it for IWB. The Beretta is a very clean and slick (no slide lock lever) little gun with a pretty impressive DA trigger. Disclaimer... I do not own the Nano... yet!

My little Kahr feels so solid for a plastic gun and aquiring the front sight is intuitive.

I like the Kel-tec PF9 trigger. It is long ... but relatively but smooth throughout.

I love the single action trigger on my taurus 709. It is alot different from a glock where there is no presse until the trigger is pulled almost all the way back but it has a crisp break. Very easy to shoot!

But I do love my glock 27!

Just my opinion...

AR beat me to it. If you like Glocks you will love the walther! The only reason I never got one was they had some problems in the beginning and they cost way to much when they first came out but I wouldn't consider it a micro nine. Perfect single stack sub compact 9mm for hip carry imo.

Another fan here of the loooooong, smoooooth trigger pull on the Kahr PM9. Like the Glock 26, an amazingly accuarate gun for it's size. A vastly different "best trigger" in some people's view might very well be the semi-new Kimber solo. I got to shoot one of my student's Solos a few weeks ago and it was so light, compared to some others, it was downright scary.
