CHLers with criminal backgrounds - how long to wait?

#1

Post by alexrex20 »

I've been arrested twice, once for a class A misdemeanor which I completed probation over 5 years ago, and another time though the charge was dismissed and expunged. After reading up on this forum, and with yalls advise, I went ahead and paid my dues and submitted the application, certain that I qualify.

Anyway, it's been a week since USPS says they delivered my packet, and the website still says they're awaiting my packet. I figure they're just stacked waiting for someone to input it into the system - no big deal. I'm just curious what kind of total wait times people have had, if they actually have a criminal background similar (or worse?) to mine. I guess I can't call it a criminal background, because I got a certified copy from the county clerk stating that I have a clear background check.

As mentioned, I sent in a certified copy of my background check (clear), a certified copy of my successful completion of probation for the misdemeanor, and my own personal copy of the disposition of my other arrest. (The record was expunged so even the county clerk could not pull it up.)

I think I've covered all my bases. Does everyone else experience extended wait times, due to their background?

it takes normally up to about 2 weeks for it to show up online.
Also understand that many of us noticed that the website doesn't update daily, Wednesdays and Weekends (Sunday mornings a lot of times) and sometimes Mondays about 9am.
So even though they have it, it isn't like ordering from Best Buy or tracking a shipment on UPS.com, its not 'friendly' in that way.
Your history wouldn't affect the time of it showing online either.

Thanks for the tips. I understand that they don't update the website login every day. My question was about the total wait time to process for people with a history.

Anyway, like the other guy suggested, I guess I need to just trust the system and be patient. Hopefully I can forget about it completely, so it will be a nice surprise when it finally shows in the mail.

I am not sure there is a hard and fast rule on that.
The answer probably more depends on how detailed you were in the application, as well as the disposition of the case(s) involved.
From a lot of prior reading on this forum, those that did not include enough information about the disposition of the cases, took a lot longer time that those that were fully upfront and sent in all needed information.

Only a guess here, but if you sent it all in, I would think, as long as you qualify, 6 weeks from mailed to license is reasonable. If you need to send more documents, then probably 4 weeks after they receive all other required documents is a reasonable guess.

Based on my experience it has taken roughly 60-70 days for them to do their own investigation and approvals. Mine posted mailed today after being received on Dec.1, 2011.

:iagree:

Two class b's, one class c, advanced copies of all certified court docs got me a 64 day wait from the time they received the packet, at least for bg to be complete. Tack on a week or two for manufacturing and mailing.

Not bad really, considering not too long ago that would have been an exceptionally fast turnaround for someone with a clean record. I sm just grateful I don't have to do that stuff that used to get me into trouble anymore!!!

I had a class B 7 years ago and if it wasn't for the finger prints being sent to the Dept. of Insurance I would have had mine in about 6 weeks.
I did find out that there is a two week back log from the day they recieve it, to any update on the website. All in all it took 9 weeks from the day I mailed the class forms until I got it in the mail.
