Just thought I would out this out there for grins. It took me 18 days for my texas chl to go from door to door and I am now at 27 days for the Mississippi one. The funny thing is they print it off while you wait show it to you and then say "It will come in the mail in under 45 days. The plus side there is not a class you have to take unlike Texas and Tennessee but the down side is it is a terrible mustard yellow color and any no guns sign is enough to keep one from legally carrying in said location. Oh and you have to have the license to even carry in your automobile.

...that's a lotta change in Mississippi...as of last year there was no nonresident license...and no license required to carry a loaded, concealed handgun anywhere in a vehicle...and affirmative defenses if you're caught carrying on person without a license include a real journey or a reason to believe your life is threatened...pretty good state...long guns loaded in the vehicle except in deer and turkey season...

It appears I was mistaken in that it is Tennessee that requires a permit even to have a concealed firearm loaded in the car. I am only about 5 miles from the border and as you can see I am getting my laws confused. Not only have I seen more pork cuts then I knew existed I have had a devil of a time finding a brisket! Also no Claude's marinade! Thank heavens for Blue Bell and Shiner though. Again apologizing for inconsistantcies

I was wondering were the non-resident references where coming from and them I realized I had not changed my location. So to be clear I am now a resident of Mississippi. I am also trying to learn all the nuances of this new place. This part of the code came in real handy
Is a resident of the state and has been a resident for twelve (12) months or longer immediately preceding the filing of the application. However, this residency requirement may be waived, provided the applicant possesses a valid permit from another state, is active military personnel stationed in Mississippi or is a retired law enforcement officer establishing residency in the state.

...that's the "waiving" I was talkin' 'bout...didn't know you'd left us...are you in service??? I had to check it all out...have a kid and an ex-wife in Mississippi...been to see one of them

...remember, you have 30 days from changing your address to notify Texas of your new address...all the rules,fee, and info are in Texas Government Code 411.181...doing that will keep your Texas CHL valid(though it may change to a non-resident license) so that when MS checks your Texas CHL to decide if they'll waive the waiting period...Texas won't tell them it's not valid cause you didn't...lotta hoops to jump through...let us know if they do...

...whose border are you 5 miles from? Tennessee??? they reciprocate with any licensing state...been there for some training...with a permit, you can carry magazine loaded long guns...none in barrel...folks with no permit can't even have long guns magazine loaded...
