friends house broke into.

#1

Post by Mr.ViperBoa »

So my wife just called me and said that her friend about 2 blocks away came home from running some errands and went face to face with two guys coming out of the house. She said that they got just about every thing of value. She got a description of the persons and car but the car was found out to be stolen, so no good there. She is lucky they didn't try to harm her.

The things can be replaced and insurance will help with that. What will take a long time is restoring the sense of invasion & violation. She will need her friends to hear what she is really saying.

Our house was burglarized--fortunately they were gone when I got home. I came home and the front door and the door from the garage into the house were standing open. I called my husband from outside and had him on the phone as I walked far enough in the back door to tell that someone had been in the house while my son jumped in his car and headed home. I stood out in the driveway until my son had checked out the house. Whooever it was went right straight to the bedroom--took all my husbands guns and all of his brass, badges and duty belt. Took jewelry and (get this!) my perfumes and his guitar. Walked right past big screen tvs, etc.

All that to say, it takes along time to get over the feeling of not feeling secure in your own house

I can only imagine. I had a vehicle stolen once and that was bad enough. I tell my wife all the time. Keep the front blinds closed, and when your gone make sure the alarm is set and that the Rotty is in the back yard. I guess if someone wants what you have bad enough, they will get it one way or another. :tiphat:

Ugh. I hate thieves. Hate them. Hate them.
ViperBoa, I also had a car stolen. Actually, it was a Jeep Rubicon. I put a LOT of work into that jeep too.. even won a few awards at local auto-shows in San Diego. Anyhow.... walked out of my apartment one night to see that it had been stolen from it's parking space. Nothing could be done.... being 15 miles away from TJ, Mexico it was good as gone.

As far as expensive household items such as jewelry and such... make sure it's covered by insurance. Hide them well. Family heirlooms and the like are kept in a safe deposit box at my bank. My wife and I have created a spectacular hiding spot in our house for our jewelry.....I can't encourage you enough to be creative here! TV's and such are great for thieves, but they are really looking for easily transportable items like jewelry, guitars, DVD's gaming consoles, etc.
