Positive Encounter with Seguin PD

I've only had my CHL for a little over a month, I knew I'd get jinxed and get pulled over!

Late last night I was passing through Seguin on highway 123 coming from Ft. Worth down to Corpus. Speed limit rapidly decreases from 70 down to 55, and then 45 coming into town, and I just clicked my cruise control off, coasting to reduce my speed. Passed by a parked police car and thought it was a dummy, but his friend pulled out and got me. By the time the officer came to the car, I already had my interior lights on, license, CHL and registration out and ready, and hands on the wheel. He led by introducing himself and saying that he got me for 61 in a 45 and asked for my documents. I handed him everything and said that I was indeed carrying, in my front pocket and another under the seat. He didn't seem phased by this, told me to keep my hands on the wheel, and went back to his car. He wrote me a warning and sent me on my way. All in all the experience was very short and professional, unlike the two previous times I've been pulled (in NC, then FL). He didn't even seem interested that I was carrying since I was obviously not presenting a threat to him.

Hoping I don't run into the law again anytime soon, but this encounter was definitely positive!

LEO's can probably sniff out what might be a bad encounter by visual clues. You obviously didn't fit the profile of a possible problem. I'm extremely particular about obeying speed limits, always using turn signals, etc. Don't want or need any life complications due to not following rules.

Actually, that sounds as if you were coming into the "suburb" of Geronimo, which is a couple miles outside of Seguin (and includes a school zone as well). The speed limit does drop pretty durn fast right there. The speed limit between Geronimo and Seguin does not go back up to 70, so if you were doing 70 coming into Seguin you were indeed a naughty boy.

In any case, the SPD has had its problems, but harrassing CHL holders is not one I have heard of. A couple years ago there was some extra security put on for a downtown festival because of some threats by a juvenile gang. It was announced in the paper that barriers would be put up around the public square, and people would be wanded as they entered, no weapons allowed. I marched myself down there with pistol in place and CHL in hand and told the SPD officer at the entrance I had a CHL. He said something like "Good for you," or "Congratulations," shook my hand (which really surprised me) and in I went, no fuss no muss.

Actually, that sounds as if you were coming into the "suburb" of Geronimo, which is a couple miles outside of Seguin (and includes a school zone as well). I think you're right, because I was in "Seguin" for a lot longer than I thought I should have been. It was midnight and I was tired, not really paying attention, haha.

Dallas to Corpus via Seguin? Were you lost or did you just want to take the scenic route? ;0) We just lost a dear friend from Seguin. I know she worked for SPD for years, maybe retired from there but we had the pleasure of meeting several of their Officers. A great bunch of guys and gals!

That scenic route is the best way to go. Going into SA is about 20 miles longer, and you may have to deal with traffic.

I hate that part of 123!
Never been pulled over there, but it indeed drops down in speed very quickly.
