The pertinent question is: did the individual gain entry to the home FORCIBLY? If so, bad mistake on his part...and the last mistake, too.speedsix wrote:...if the bleeding hearts would change the shooter's name to that of their daughter or wife, it'd help 'em understand what happened a LOT better...

Watch Fox 4 news right now for an update.steveincowtown wrote:This story is going to turn sad in a quick second. I hope it turns out this wasn't the case...

Nevermind... I found the story on their website: http://wap.myfoxdfw.com/w/news-local/story/50481273/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

What a nightmare, but anyone breaking into a home in the middle of the night is likely going to be shot. Moral of the story--don't get so drunk that you do stupid stuff. It can be very bad for everyone. This fellow made some bad choices. The homeowner is not a psychic to know "no worries this guy is just drunk and lost" sloshed responded to the invasion of her home in a most appropriate manner.

Bad deal for all involved. No matter how tough you are, knowing the person you shot was a drunk not a crook would be a tough one to live with. Knowing your son lost his life due to some poor choices would be hard to live with as well.mamabearCali wrote:What a nightmare, but anyone breaking into a home in the middle of the night is likely going to be shot. I hate to even Monday morning quarterback this thing, but I wonder if some verbalization would have changed the outcome...." Leave now, do not ring my doorbell anymore, I have called the police. If you come into my house I will shoot you."

Re: Ft. Worth Home Intruder Shot Dead
...I would not want my wife to do that...it would let the guy trying the doorknob know that there was a woman there...that she was near the door, and he might call her bluff and kick the door open...being in the same room with her...she did well to retreat to the bedroom and wait...once he breached the back door and then opened the bedroom door...there was no "in the wrong house"...if he had been next door, where the lady of his intentions actually lived, was his plan to kick down HER door and then bedroom door??? What would have happened if he'd broken in next door, and would the other lady have been able to protect herself??? No pity for him...he was doing something very wrong and paid a terrible price for it...be it for evil purposes, romance, or a drunken episode...he made choices and involved another in them...he got what he deserved...18 or 65, drunk or sober...

I can't find a straight answer if the door was locked. If not it doesn't diminish the homeowner's defense, but the reverse would say something about the guy the press is calling an innocent victim.

...an earlier account that I can't find now in print said he rang the front doorbell, rattled the knob...then went to the back door and broke in, then went and forced open the bedroom door where she was hiding...I got it by following a link from here, and it also said she asked her husband on the phone if HE was at the door...he said no...go get the gun...
...if he was willing to break the back door to get in...maybe it's good that he got the "wrong" house and someone was there who COULD defend herself...
...this at least takes him to the back door...not just the front... http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/archives/shooting/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and scroll down to the story...
