Ft. Worth Home Intruder Shot Dead
A woman shot and killed an home intruder in her exclusive Fort Worth neighborhood early Thursday morning, according to police.
Officers first received reports of a prowler in the 6700 block of Fortune Road near the Ridglea Country Club about 3:30 a.m.
According to Fort Worth Police Public Information Officer Sharron Neal, the woman, who was home alone, told police that someone rang her doorbell, then broke into her home.
Before she dialed 911, the woman reportedly called her husband, who was away traveling. He advised her to retrieve a gun kept in the home for protection.
Officer Neal said when officers arrived a few minutes later, they found a man inside the home with a gunshot wound to the torso.
The suspect was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died of his wounds.
Officer Neal also said the family had recently purchased the home.
Fort Worth police are interviewing the woman at downtown headquarters. (I hope she has an attorney present)

No confirmation on how the intruder gained entry.

I heard on the NBC 5 morning news that he tried to enter the front door, then went to the back door and gained entry. He was shot when he entered the premises.

Re: Ft. Worth Home Intruder Shot Dead
All I want someone to explain to me is: why do they do it? I don't mean why do they rob or steal, I get that part...I mean why do they try to gain forcible entry into someone's home, WHEN THE PERSON IS HOME, in the State of Texas (Oklahoma, Arizona, etc)? Are they all high on drugs? Do they think they are bullet-proof? Or are they really just dumber than a box of rocks, in that regard? Yeah, they MIGHT get the homeowner/resident, but chances are also pretty good that they are going to walk into someplace they are not going to walk out of...seems like there might be easier ways to swipe folks' stuff without putting their lives in so much jeopardy (I know they don't care about the other person, but you'd think they would care about their own hides just a little). I guess I'm putting too much thought into this, but that is the part I really just don't get.
Re: Ft. Worth Home Intruder Shot Dead
I think you are probably wrong about the second part I excerpted -- they feel, and I think they are right that, that there is a pretty good chance they ARE going to walk out, having done whatever they came for, even in Texas, especially if it is a woman home alone. I think the sheepdog/sheep ratio in the US is still pretty low, even in Texas, altho I think this is changing...Heartland Patriot wrote: ...I mean why do they try to gain forcible entry into someone's home, WHEN THE PERSON IS HOME, in the State of Texas (Oklahoma, Arizona, etc)? I figured the "rang the bell" part was to find out if someone was home.... See a light come on and flee???
So little detail on this incident.... Did the woman turn on a light? Respond at all to the front door?
Will be interesting to hear/read the details.

This story is going to turn sad in a quick second. I was told my someone close to the investigation that the person who went to the house was of college age, drunk, and just trying find a house he was looking for. Very sad indeed. I hope it turns out this wasn't the case...

Thank heavens! If she called 911 first the operator might have tried to keep her talking instead of doing something to defend herself.Rex B wrote:Before she dialed 911, the woman reportedly called her husband, who was away traveling. He advised her to retrieve a gun kept in the home for protection.
