Note in the above link that the married woman was living with her boyfriend, they had an argument, and
she called her husband to pick her up.

Tensions were running high and her husband and son showed up with baseball bats.

People are their own worst enemies.

I'm not prepared/qualified to comment on her morals; however, I do think that she may not be the brightest bulb on the tree.

Assuming the article is accurate, I don't see how there is any question about whether the shooting was justified. The bottom line is that 2 men came onto the man's property and assaulted him with deadly weapons.

As for the rest of it, if my wife called me to pick her up from her boyfriend's house, I wouldn't show up with a bat because I wouldn't be showing up at all. The wife may have questionable morals and questionable intelligence but the husband has no sense at all handling the situation the way he did.

Without question but I didn't mean so much that he had no sense because he was seemingly willing to take her back. I probably should have been more clear but I meant he had no sense because he went to someone elses home and attempted to beat him with a bat (felony at best, murder at worst) for something his wife did. That is incredibly poor judgement. What is even worse is that he put is son in that situation as well. That is inexcusable.

I have told my kids many times that the easiest thing in the world to find is trouble. If you look for it, you will find it. This guy went looking for it and he found it.

This is like guys dumb enough to pick a fight at a softball field. Besides a ton of witnesses around, you are assaulting someone with easy access to a bat. If he smacks you in the head with it, it is self defense. If you use one, it is assault with a deadly weapon. A few months ago, there was an incident where someone was stabbed at a softball game by another player in front of a bunch of witnesses who knew who he was. Besides being inexcusable, spending years in prison because you didn't like the way a game turned out is beyond crazy. People who do these sorts of things, not only have no morals or human decency, they have no sense. Criminals, in general, have no sense. If they had any, they wouldn't be criminals in the first place.

At face value, I can't imagine that anyone would think this isn't self-defense, castle doctrine or no. The only salient point I can think of where investigation is a good idea comes to mind when I think about a case in Colorado from 2005:

Husband and wife are getting divorce. Wife moves out and shacks up with new boyfriend. New boyfriend and wife want the husband dead so she can inherit all his property before the divorce is finalized. Castle doctrine is recently passed in CO, so they formulate a scheme: tell husband that she has a box of his stuff, and that he can come over to boyfriend's house to pick it up on the back porch that night while they're gone so they don't cross paths. Boyfriend waits in the dark until husband shows up and picks up a box of stuff, then guns him down with a 12-gauge, claiming that "he had never seen the husband in person before, it was dark, he was in my house, and I was scared." If the husband hadn't told a friend where he was going and for what purpose, and if his phone hadn't kept a record of the wife calling his cell just before he drove over, I'm sure a murder would've gone down as a write-off because of the castle doctrine.

You've got to pick through the trash when you're dealing with trashy people, I guess.

Why do parents do this to their children? IIRC there was an incident in NY recently involving a father and son attacking some parking lot attendants that ended in the death of the son. If in fact, the father and son initiated the attack, let's hope the father is charged with his son's death.
