Re: Another Deadly Home Invasion...this time in Katy
I usually have something on me, but the other night I did not, and I experienced how bad it can be if you don't.
Family was sitting watching a Christmas movie, drinking hot cocoa, in PJ's... well, all of the sudden, major racket at the front door! It sounded like someone was trying to pry it open.
I jumped up, but realized I felt naked without anything on me for defense. On the way to my office to get my gun, I saw what was happening. Some kid was at the door trying to open it. He was like 10. I got my gun just in case, but was a little relieved.
Turns out, he was at the wrong house. His uncle lives next door, and his key was not working in my door.
I was relieved when I saw a kid, but made sure to be armed anyway just in case he was being used by some nefarious adults.
Man, those seconds that I had to fly into my office and back seemed like eternity, and it was only one room away.

...at about 10:10 last evening, the doorbell rang...son was at work and I asked the wife if she was expecting anyone...I answered the door with .45 in hand...a neighbor had baked cookies and was unwisely delivering them at that hour...bless her heart...then I read this this morning...ANYTIME, ANYWHERE...it's never impossible for IT to happen to US...what a sad holiday season and horrible memories these kids/mom will have...hope they catch the perp/s and he/they resist to the utmost...

Each one of these tragedies no doubt inspires more to become first-time gun owners, CHL's, or add more weapons to their collections.
I'm glad I got my Remington 870.

Looks like the "home invasion" was nothing more than a drug deal gone bad.

Not to downplay a tragic event, but I find it to be a relief when the parties involved were somehow acquainted (drug deal, gangs, ex-boyfriend, etc.) rather than being purely random.

Re: Another Deadly Home Invasion...this time in Katy
This happened a few blocks to my home, so the missus was kinda freaked. However, the more I thought about it, the more rational I got. Like rp_photo notes, it was not a random event. I recall when the story came on, all the newsies were showing crying family all the time flashing a picture of the dead man showed him smiling with an infant in a carrier. My gut feeling was that this guy probably was a real piece of work hiding in suburbia. Selling dope outta the house with your kids around? Yeah, real piece of work. I wonder if the wife knew about it as well? I think this might expand out even more.
Cheers!
Mark
