Loading the gun

Post by Ldy AlliDu »

So, I might be able to go to the range tomorrow, did you know it is possible to load the bullets backwards in the magazine, what happens then, do I just shoot myself?
Maybe I shouldn't go

It is possible to load cartridges in the magazine backward. They should not, however, chamber or fire. They might cause a stoppage that is hard to clear. As you load cartridges into the magazine, just make sure the bullet end of the cartridge doesn't enter first. Oh, and make sure that the cartridges you are using are correct for your gun.

If you really don't know, you need training. Badly.

The short answer is, most guns won't allow you to load the rounds backwards. If they do, magazine won't allow you to insert the magazine backwards. If you insert the magazine in correctly, with the rounds backwards, the gun will jam when the slide is released. I guess it's possible for a round to explode if the primer is struck when you try to chamber a round backwards.

Seriously, find a buddy who knows what they are doing to show you the basics of safe operation. Better, pay a firearms instructor for an hour or so of their time or take an NRA First Steps course.

I'm assuming the OP was being facetious.

It is also possible to load the bullet backwards in the cartridge. No personal experience here. See The Box O' Truth #50.

Ldy AlliDu wrote:So, I might be able to go to the range tomorrow, did you know it is possible to load the bullets backwards in the magazine, Yes it is possible, on some models.
what happens then, Your firearm will not operate in the manner designed.
do I just shoot myself? No
Maybe I shouldn't go
You definitely need instruction AND range time with a qualified instructor until you possess the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude required to safely operate your firearm. The NRA offers a Basic pistol course which would be of great benefit in answering all of your questions concerning handguns http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Good luck, your local range may also have instructors, I prefer the standardized instruction of the NRA for new shooters.
