...carrying a gun ANY WAY demands vigilant attention to those around us and some folks just won't put out that effort...either thinking that the sight of the gun will repel boarders or not thinking anyone can spot their cncealed gun, or just being in a distracted haze and not thinking at all...there are very FEW stories of someone whose gun was taken from their open holster or concealed or from their hand...the highest incidence of guns taken away and used on the one carrying them is uniformed police officers...many through the years have been disarmed/shot with their own weapons...it can happen to anyone...one of our officers was in a 7-11, at the counter paying for something...mid-morning...and a perp walked in, snatched his revolver from his snapped holster, and shot him in the back with it...for no reason that we could ever figure out...
...some of the criminal element can spot a concealed carrier quicker than some officers can...just because it's concealed, we can't relax...
...this story does underscore the worth of carrying a backup...ANYTIME we're carrying a gun...
Toby Smith Jr. is accused of stealing Blaine Tyler's gun inside a gas station last week and fatally shooting him after Tyler chased Smith inside the store.
My instructor warned us about playing cops and robbers. Maybe Blaine Tyler would be alive today if he didn't chase criminals.
...I wouldn't tag the dead man for "playing cops and robbers"...he may have felt responsibility to stop the thug from leaving there with his gun to harm someone else...which is just what the thug did...I don't fault him for trying...it's not like he intervened in something that was none of his business...

Nor I. But I will fault his tactics. With a better tactical approach, he may have prevailed. For example, here is a classic case for carrying a BUG.
...yup...this would have been a situation where you needed to shoot a fleeing felon...several times, if necessary...and would have showed a lot of folks WHY if you carry, you should carry a BUG...well...it still does, in a sad way...poor tactics, indeed...
