Here's my alarm system. He answers to the name of "Trapper"............when it suits him.

In his defense, he barks aggressively at all of our friends.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer in the bunch, but here is our Megan, who was also a rescue dog. Until Thanksgiving weekend she was a wonderful sentinel for us for 7 years. Not only did she keep the yard cat- and squirrel- free, she alerted us to every stranger who got close to the house. She was great with the kids, too. Truly the best dog ever.

Unfortunately, she somehow got into the middle of the highway at the farm (which she's never done in 7 years!) and was hit by a pickup. We took her to A&M, but even they couldn't fix her back - one stupid bone broken the wrong way. Now, she stands guard over the farm under an oak tree.

Our primary alarm system, Fudge, hard at work

Image

And the rest of the crew: Allie, Champ, Pepper, and Jake.

Image

Usually Fudge alerts on all kinds of things outside the house, and just about any strange noise in the house, and that lights the rest of them off. The littlest, Allie, a miniature long hair Dacshund, is the noisiest except Fudge.

And yes, they have their own couch.

I love how this thread has taken off so quickly. I love dogs so much... It's interesting to see what everyone else has. I think that the type a dog that one owns shows the kind of person they are...

UpTheIrons, I lost my Ridgeback (Pictured at the bottom of page 1) in October. Had him for almost 15 years, so I know how it hurts to loose a close friend. Sorry for your loss.

TAM---What the heck? LOL. Was that taken after Thanksgiving? haha

So sorry to hear about that! We have our 3 year old Boston, Fiona. She is the best! She is a little too high energy for small children (she goes to the face licking and little kids tend to freak out).

She doesn't do a whole lot of guarding during the day though. At night she'll alert if she hears something go bump (usually our upstairs neighbors).

Actually, that was taken a few months ago. That's pretty much his natural condition.

Mean looking bugger, isn't he?

There are five more but these can raise enough of a ruckus to have even the most determined thinking twice or three times about even coming inside the gate much less the house. You know the old saying "Never mind the dog beware of the owner." :evil2: :eek6 :fire

Thank you, snatchel. We had Megan 7 years, I can't imagine how you felt at Rocky's loss. I am so sorry.

On the good side, I get to see lots of other faithful friends here. And some very sleepy ones, too, from the looks of many of the photos!

Thank you.

What a cutie you've got there! Fioa has the same look on her face as Megan did when my daughter put a tiara (non-CHL edition) on her head: "Why are you doing this to me? Was I really that bad?"

I didn't realize how spoiled my GSP was until I found myself at walmart buying a space heater for him b/c he was soooo cold yesterday afternoon.

I guess I will respond with a few of the sleeping pics...

I don't have pictures of all of mine on this computer, but this is the one that's most likely to actually scare someone off...
