Eliminate the good hiding/viewing places where possible. Then install cameras.

Cameras may help ID the perpetrators later, but lights will help discourage them from coming around in the first place. These days, solar powered automatic security lights are cheap and easy to install.
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

You can get a low end system for a few hundred dollars - four cameras and a DVR, and the sky is the limit after that.

Most of the DVR systems and all of the ones that use a computer you provide, can be set up to record all cameras, or only those that are active (motion sensors). Recording all cameras all the time uses up lots of space, particularly if you are just recording the driveway with nothing in it, so motion sensing is best.

I prefer wireds systems, wireless is great, but you have to power it somehow, which means changing batteries on a regular basis, or running power, and if you are going to run power, you might just as well wire all the way, which also eliminates the interference that plagues the wireless systems in today's wireless world.

:iagree: I have a 4 camera DIY system with a 4 channel 500 gig DVR. Wired cameras, runs all the time, The DVR loops over about every 3 days.

I just put in 1 camera at a time as I could afford it.

My yard. My rules. Some would say it isn't tactically sound to go after him... but I would do it again without second thought. I chased until the edge of my property, then let the Police Officers who responded sort the rest out.

It looks like I will be doing some shopping for a DIY security set up. Thanks for the valuable info on these set-ups...

Oh yeah, my windows will be closed from now on :)

I agree with the my property my rules. I will take the offensive but maintain positive or as much positive control on the situation. Not that I am going to shoot a Tom but the sound of my 870 chambering a round should turn the control of the field to me.

I'd be tempted to set the dog on him. Not sure about the legality of that--but the peeper deserves no less than a good leg chewing that keeps him at home for a few days. Other than that I second closing the shades and the cameras.

This is a good example of the cameras I have:

http://www.q-see.com/products/security- ... ductId=264" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Notice the specs:
1/3" Sony CCD Image Sensor critical
520 TV Lines Resolution critical
3.6mm Fixed Lens
65ft Night Vision
36 IR LEDs

You do not want to below this. I tried cheaper cameras and I couldn't see squat at night. I just wasted my money. The cheap cameras work great in the daylight and in the store, but they just don't work very well at night.

In the specs for a camera pay attention to the 'field of view'. At 67 deg that is a good slice of area. I bought a camera with a 30 deg fov and it didn't hit the entire area I wanted.

Shooting eyes out w/ a BB gun.... That is a good idea actually. Unfortunately, I no longer own a BB gun. Sadly, my wife made me get rid of it when I started shooting squirrels out of the oak tree in our backyard for our dog to play with :(

You can also use 4 150W spotlights on motion detectors..set them on at dusk manually or automatic. should get a good picture and DNA samples. One of my son's idiot friend tried to pull off the screen and open the window of my teen age daughter's room..floodlights and me armed caused him to wet his pants... Didn't shoot him, but it was close. 600W focused at him allowed me to ID him just in time..cured him, too.. :anamatedbanana :anamatedbanana

...I love all you radical hearts...and I are one...I'm one to grab the light and hit the yard, too...my dogs would just sniff him to see where he'd been and wait for a treat...in my opinion, a Peeping Tom is a rapist looking for an opportunity...and should be dealt with accordingly...
