Interesting story at the range today

Was at the range today getting in some practice. A guy walks up and talks about guns in general and shows his. Then said he has a chl and started to carry all the time. And he had to use it last year! Ok I'm interested at this point.

He said he was at a big box store and in the check out with his wife. Big biker dude and Ms. biker with him were in front of them. Biker dude says to Ms. Biker to watch out that female dog (the other term for female dog) will run you over. So the ChL guy gets up in the bikers face and says, watch it buddy she is not a "female dog". Biker guy says watch it old man I'll kick your "back side".

CHLer, opens his wallet and shows the biker guy the top of his CHL license and says you might not want to do that. He shows me how it is positioned in his wallet. All you see is Texas Concealed Handgun License and nothing else. He said the biker dude backed away and wanted no more participation at that point.

Dang it, I thought i was going to get a story on how it saved his life. Instead, I'm thinking how he screwed up. I guess he forgot or ignored the part about de-escalation. Anyone got an opinion and any pertinent legal code to show what, if anything, he (CHLer) could have violated.

I guess technically he did de-escalate the situation. Not the smartest move but in the end they all walked away, steering clear of violence. I hope he's had time to look back on it and realize he could have made a better decision.

Well, not the smartest thing IMHO it did deescalate the situation Mr. Biker Dude could have said he was threatening him. I'm glad it worked out.

Just curious. What is this tool thing you speak of? This is the second time I've seen someone referred to as a "Tool" here. Apparently its not a compliment, up until very recently I thought tools were good thing.

If this story is actually true I would classify the CHL'er as a fool (a non-PC version of a tool). He was daring the "biker" to make a move, surprised he did not wake up on the floor with a broken jaw. He escalated the situation and entered the "bikers" personal space, people such as him are a bad reflection on the CHL community as a whole. Consider this, what if the biker pushed him away for being so close? Would he draw his handgun? If so it sounds to me like the CHL'er would be taking a ride..... If a gun is pulled then he better be justified in squeezing the trigger......... Words with no actions are not a reason to imply use of deadly force....

It's a slang term that usually means someone is easily influenced or manipulated as far as I remember. I am in my early 30s and I am sorry to say I think this is something my generation and maybe people a few years older started. As far as I know the first time I heard it was in the early-mid 90s during my 8th grade or freshmen year. I think it was one of those things that spawned off from grunge culture but I could be wrong.

I am sorry to also say that we used the term as a form of hazing to kids who were loaners and followers who tried to enter our groups or cliques without knowing us.

There's better ways to de-escalate than escalating so you can maybe de-escalate later.

Hard to call that de-escalation

If something "MUST" be said:
Politeness works better "I'd sure appreciate you not using such language around the lady, we're not accustomed to hearing that sort of thing. thank you"

There are a myriad of definitions that a google search will bring up but generally is to be interpreted as..."idiot"

Most anti's would certainly fit the "tool" label as they mindlessly parrot the Brady talking points hoping it will gain them more acceptance into whatever sorority it is they're after.

Our hapless subject clearly wants to be in the "cool carry guy" clique a little too hard and has turned himself into a complete "tool" for the anti's. While he was criminally stupid I don't think he broke any actual laws. Hopefully he will mellow out but probably not. Perhaps if he keeps shooting his mouth off at the range he'll get enough constructive comments and ostracism and realize what a maroon he's being. Usually worked with me...

Well, that would not have happened. The CHLer also said he was not even carrying at the time. I quess that is what he meant by saying his CHL saved him a year ago. Because it was not his gun that saved him, considering he did not have his with him at the time.

Not every poker player falls for a bluff ... Obviously the guy did more than one stupid thing that day.
Everyone errs now and again ...Hopefully he's learning better now how to resolve conflict without escalation, but by de-escalation.
