Re: Occupy Wall Street
The occupiers here in Richmond VA got the boot last night. Nine arrested. Happily because they cleared them out at 1 am most were too sleepy (and cold) to do much more than shuffle out to the sidewalk with what what they could carry.

OccupyDC now denies that they'll secede and apparently stopped working on their Constitution ... I think they figured out if they did it would be an occupation by a foreign government here... that might not turn out well for themmamabearCali wrote:The occupiers here in Richmond VA got the boot last night. Re: Occupy Wall Street
Really? They were really working on that? I thought that was just a strange report among all the other strange reports. Cause that worked so well the first time oh about 150 years ago. And that was with geographical unity, natural resources, etc etc. Really I think these guys (the majority of them anyway) have 0 sense of history. .

If you do not like your place in life and want to get rich, do something about it. Last time I checked this feat is still possible and is entirely dependent on whatever limitations you place on yourself. Many have done so.The Mad Moderate wrote:So my "choice" to spend what little money I have on essentials should be punished at a higher overall rate than a rich person who has money to burn.
Oh, by the way, more often than not it is done by way of a process called capitalism.
Or, you could just run for congress or senate and get your millions off the backs of working men and women.

Your basic premise seems to be that you are jealous of someone who earns more than you.The Mad Moderate wrote:You seem to need a math lesson, I said overall higher rate, it I make 24k in a year and spend most of it I'm taxed 8% on what I spend, now if someone was to make 124k and spend 50k yes all 50K is taxed at 8% but what about the other 74k that goes untaxed, so overall I pay a higher rate than someone making more money than me. Do not insult my intelligence.
You must dislike a lot of people.
Get over it.
If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.
Almost half of people living in this country pay no taxes. These individuals are not the rich elite.

Re: Occupy Wall Street
Please, please when you do your taxes next time ask your friends for recommendations and go to a good accountant. If you are making 24K a year you should not be getting taxed hardly at all. If my DH and I are going to pay a higher rate so that those who earn less pay less, please at least only pay what you are required to and not one cent more. The Mad Moderate wrote: You seem to need a math lesson, I said overall higher rate, it I make 24k in a year and spend most of it I'm taxed 8% on what I spend, now if someone was to make 124k and spend 50k yes all 50K is taxed at 8% but what about the other 74k that goes untaxed, so overall I pay a higher rate than someone making more money than me. Re: Occupy Wall Street
That is not true. And to your other points no I do not care if someone makes a dollar a year or a hundred million I praise success and am working for it myself. The problem is the system seems to be rigged to make it tougher for people who earn less to make it and to move up in life. You can leave the personal attacks at home.anygunanywhere wrote:Your basic premise seems to be that you are jealous of someone who earns more than you.The Mad Moderate wrote:You seem to need a math lesson, I said overall higher rate, it I make 24k in a year and spend most of it I'm taxed 8% on what I spend, now if someone was to make 124k and spend 50k yes all 50K is taxed at 8% but what about the other 74k that goes untaxed, so overall I pay a higher rate than someone making more money than me. May not be, but it is darn close. The bottom 50% of income earners paid an average tax rate of 1.85% in 2009, and the bottom 50% of earners pay less (as a percentage) today then they have in the past 20 years. The Mad Moderate wrote:anygunanywhere wrote:That is not true. The Mad Moderate wrote:

Sorry but they are not personal attacks. They are a defensive stance against people who insist that those well off pay more than their fair share so that almost half can skate free without paying much at all.The Mad Moderate wrote:You can leave the personal attacks at home.
Mrs. Anygun and I have worked very hard for what we have. We have earned every penny through sweat and labor, long hours, and consistent performance. To see the taxing entities be they county state or fed suck up their "share" each year angers me to no end. Our combined tax bill is equal to nearly 45% when all is said and done including the so called fair and equal sales taxes. When anyone starts talking about fair taxes I automatically tune them out because until EVERYONE pays EQUALLY it will not be fair. Then to see the OWS dirtbags demand that debt be eliminated and cry for socialism the defense mechanisms rev up. It is not time for a different tax code or scheme, it is time to hit the reset/reboot switch.

Re: Occupy Wall Street
Sir I am not insulting your intelligence. You take offense VERY easily. My husband does very complex math every day as part of his job, and we still have an accountant do our taxes. Having a decent grasp of math does you no good with the current tax code. The tax code is incredibly long and complex and if you mess up you are in some serious hot water. The IRS won't give 2 cents for your math skills. So yes, I recommend having an accountant do your taxes. That is no insult to your intelligence. The Mad Moderate wrote:\

I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.anygunanywhere wrote:If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.

I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Occupy Wall Street
I don't know about that one. I guess we all pay the FICA guys.Ameer wrote:I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.anygunanywhere wrote:If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Occupy Wall Street
Are you self-employed? Because our small-business friendly government has a tax code that's exceedingly unfriendly towards small businesses and those who are self-employed. Seriously... if you're a renter and are self-employed, your taxes are way higher than someone who's make the same pay at say Best Buy. It seems employers pay half of your social security and medicare/medicaid taxes, but it's done behind the scenes so that money isn't technically part of your paycheck. Therefor, if your paycheck is low enough that you don't have much of an income tax, and you switch to being self-employed and make about the same amount, your tax burden just about doubles on an already low paycheck.Ameer wrote:I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.anygunanywhere wrote:If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

I have an accountant that specializes in tax law do our taxes. What I know about the tax code will not fill much of a sentence.Ameer wrote:I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.anygunanywhere wrote:If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.

Based on what I understand about the tax credits etc the lower income folks should be doing quite well percentage wise. 14% ain't bad. Neither is 15%.
