New CHL - Received Wrong Card!

#1

Post by gasman »

First let me say how great this forum is. I had a CHL years ago and let it expire. I decided to re-obtain one. This forum has been a great help going through the process.

My card was mailed to me today. To my surprise, they sent me someone else's CHL card. Has anyone had this experience?

Needless to say, very disappointed. I have emailed the CHL department and plan to call on Monday.

If a Mr. S. M. from Pearland is on this site and waiting for his CHL, I have your card.

Wow, that is a screwup. So I wonder if "Mr. S. M. from Pearland" received your license?

You have his name and address, why not do a white pages search and see if you can telephone him? Swap time?

No, unfortunately I do not live in Pearland. My initials are close so I guess the cards got switched. I don't know if it involves more than just the 2 of us at this point. Will try and seek the card holder out via the internet, but that still does not get my card to me. If it just involves the 2 of us and I can contact him, I guess we could just swap cards (not sure how the CHL dept would feel about that). Interesting day today. Guess I will leave the carry gun/holster in the safe for a few more days....

My first CHL went to someone else (along with theirs).
Two in the same envelope.

Took about 2 weeks for the guy to send mine back to Austin and for them to mail it to me. Thank goodness the guy sent it back in or I would have had to wait 30 days to apply for a replacement.

OK, so a little follow up. I actually found and got in touch with SM. He got mine and I got his. Is there any issue with the two of us mailing cards to each other? I am guessing the Texas DPS would not have an issue with it. I had already sent an email to the DPS and got an email response to call their help number on Monday before I was able to find/contact SM. So the state theoretically knows about the incident. Regardless, we both have valid cards just sent to the wrong address. I would think we could send cards to each other and move on. Thoughts?

Sounds to me that you have a solution. If DPS contacts you, just tell them what happened. They should not complain since it was their error.

You guys were probably just trading electrons back and forth on the internet hunting each other down. A real Tron war. I would of just mailed it to him without contacting him and included a note saying send me mine if you have it please. Good ending. DPS won't care, once mailed I don't think they can lay claim to them unless they are revoked.

Y'all have the solution. :thumbs2: I think I would spend the extra and send it certified mail. DPS needs to know about this since there seems to be a glitch in the mail room somewhere.

I can think of no reason, or law, that says you can not just mail it to each other. DPS would probably appreciate not having to deal with the issue.

Final update. I got my CHL from SM in the mail today. I am assuming he got his as well. Will check with USPS tonight to confirm. Glad to have that out of the way.

Yeah and that "glitch" does not want to spend saliva sealing envelopes, mine came sealed with a piece of tape :headscratch
