What was the most unusual car you or your father owned

I think my most unusual was the 1948 CJ2a Jeep Willys, it was a salmon pink with a red/white striped surrey top. I added a roll bar and a little larger set of tires, put the windshield down, the bomber goggles on and a hawaiian shirt and went cruising! It was neat! The previous owner made it look like one of the surrey jeeps (that you would see at tropical resorts). I had alot of fun with that rig. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the pix are, it was unique. The looks I got!

My real offroad toy/rockcrawler was a 1989 Jeep YJ called PUCKER, hence, my screen name. If you rode with me, your rear end would "PUCKER" so the name stuck! It has been through different paint schemes, tires sizes (from 30" to 42" then back to my favorites, the 38.5" TSL SX). I got out of the Jeep/wheeling scene a few years ago, into boats, more than ever, now. It had been extremely modified (ie - it ran the Sunray Engineering 609 front end/axle, this is a hybrid 9"/Dana 60/70 front axle), and in it's day, it was the baddest of the bad. Offroad machines have come a long way since then, with tube buggies and such. If I were to start all over I would just go and buy a used competition buggy (from the previous year, you can get them at half price or better).

Had to be push started (it had an electric starter, but it didn't work and parts were unfindable) ... but was easy to do. Rust everywhere, not very street legal. Don't recall what we ever did with it.

I put it up for sale in 1991 and a guy from Luxemborg bought and shipped it back to Europe.

Our most "unusual" is our current one. . . a 12-passenger Chevy Express G3500. We definitely get some unique looks when people realize it's not a church van or hotel shuttle. It has been nice that when we do see another one at a store or in a parking lot, we end up meeting other families with a lot of kiddos. We only have three right now (#4 due any day), but I hope we're not done, so I wanted to buy something I could pay off and keep long term. After a lot of research, we moved from a crew cab pickup and leap-frogged the suburbans and minivans. . .

(Also, we noticed that people quit asking us, "Is this your last one?" when seeing my wife's concealed basketball.)

Here's one like ours, but we've done a lot to make ours look less "fleet". . . Texas-flag bowtie, custom tint, vinyl striping barbed wire. . . and more to come as funds allow.

My first car was a Renault 10.

Had an electrical problem no one could figure out. My dad used to say "Ren-nalt".

Second car was a 70 some thing yellow Pinto hatch back that threw a rod one day.

But until then that thing started up instantly on the coldest of days in Chicago.

There is some thing about even your first hunk of junk cars that you look back on with fond memories.

I keep telling my wife that someday I am going to throw a project Pinto up on blocks in the front yard.

Well, I'm not sure how unusual it is, though I haven't ran into many people who learned to drive in one...a 1959 Willys Wagon. It had an inline 4-cyl and I learned to drive stick in it back in the 1980's...oh, yeah, it had a ball attached to the steering wheel that you could make quick turns with and looked SOMETHING like this one.

Had to have been a 1960 Studebaker pickup. My dad bought this at a GSA (government services auction) in 1965 to put out on the farm. It was a pale blue color, small V-8, manual transmission with a uni-body type construction. The cab and bed were bolted together as one piece. Sat low to the ground and when you shifted it from 1st to 2nd and let off the gas it would backfire. A real hit at the drive-in. It lasted about a year and we went back to using an IH 1964 pickup which drove like a tank.

In high school a 5'6" friend bought a '67 (IIRC) Austin Healey Sprite. He had stopped to pick up another friend who was 6'4" and big to boot. That little car came sputtering up and I stood there laughing as my big friend put one hand and then the other out as he corkscrewed his way out of the car. I was still laughing when he walked by scowling and growled, "I'm riding home with you."

I would have to say my 1970-1/2 (1970 and a half) Ford Falcon. It was actually the first Torino body style before it got that name. Can't find a picture of it though. It was pretty beat up (8 yrs old) when I got it. Of course at that age just having a car was a big deal. Looks came second.

I didn't own one, but I learned to drive in that car! It belonged to a second cousin who taught me to drive.

Lots of hot cars over the years that I wish I had never sold...my favorites:

first car...1971 Dodge Challenger R/T, 383 4bbl automatic, green with green interior...NO air...fast... and HOT in Texas w/o a/c...didn't bother me when i was 16 though

most raw power: 1971 Ford Torino GT with 429 "Drag Pack" and factory "shaker" hood, light tan w/ lime "fade out" stripes

nicest looking: 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda 340...Torred (red) with white vinyl top and white guts, factory air, "slapstick" tranny

fun cruiser: 1968 Camaro convertible, white with black top, just basic 327, 3speed stick...not very quick, but fun

favorite styling: 2 1976 Corvettes...white L82 automatic, and bright yellow 4speed stick....loved the 68-82 "Stingray" styling

My first was an 83 Cutlass. My favorite was my 98 Dodge Ram x cab. I wish would have never sold that truck. My current, and most prized, is a 2000 Trans Am. My Dad bought it new April 10, 2000. We lost him suddenly April 16, 2010. I now have his car. I will NEVER sell it.
