Starting to love Glocks

Hello.

Most of you know I am a fan of the 1911 (that will never change). However, I have started a new job, part-time at a gun store that is an authorized Glock dealer. Part of the job requires me to become very familiar with Glocks and their parts.

One of the first things I had to learn was how to properly and completely strip down a Glock to it's individual components right down to the tiny little springs and rebuild it without any parts left over.

The more I am exposed to this simple yet fascinating firearm, the more I am beginning to appreciate it. I can seriously see myself carrying a Glock soon as my EDC. The only problem is figuring out which one.

P.S. One of the perks of working at a gun store is the ability to open carry. My Kimber is loving it.

I would recommend a Glock 19 or 17

If you're going to own glocks, you HAVE to get a glock 19. Best compromise between capacity and concealability in their line I think.

I recommend a G23 Gen4 over a G19, but this opens up the whole 9mm vs .40S&W thing again. Either one works great. Dimensionally, they're identical. 2 fewer rounds in the G23, but I find that to be a reasonable compromise.

You could always get the G23, pick up the 9mm barrel and magazine and have both guns with one frame. Lone Wolf and Storm Lake as well as others make the barrels.

True, but the extractors sit at different angles, and you might have problems. LW does make a conversion barrel, but I don't really recommend it.

I hadn't heard that before, and I don't have any personal experience with the arrangement.

It would probably be a good idea to do some research with folks who have done it and perhaps contact the barrel maker as well to get more info before trying this option.

The safest and most versatile bet is of course to simply buy both guns.

FYI The conversion from a G23 to .357 Sig G32 is merely a barrel change. I picked up a .357 Sig barrel for conversion right here on this board just for the heck of it. Mags, slide, recoil spring and everything are identical.

Love my G30, but a lot of folks don't like the fat-grips-double-stack-10-round-wide-body-goodness-that-is-the-bull-dog.

I like the G19 almost equally as much, little thinner and the cost of ammo is easier on the wallet... Especially now that my boys are also enamored with shooting them.

Be careful with this. Multiple Glock armorers have told me conversion from .40 to .357 can be dangerous on Gen 2 and some early Gen 3 guns. Later Gen 3 should be ok, and converting from .357 to .40 is fine. Not sure on Gen 4 but assume is ok. Issue is apparently extra pressures from .357 Sig cartridge that early Glocks were not designed to withstand.

J/K, I guess Glocks are OK for some peeps. I personally will never own one.

I have shot one, once and exactly once. I was at the range with a friend who I had sold a Kimber Eclipse. We were shooting along and while I wasn't watching him he reached into his range bag and pulled out this GLOCK! I have no idea what model it was but it was big and a .45 acp. He handed it to me and said "try it out". It was super UGLY (to me), BIG, did not fit my hand at all and had that funny trigger thingy that looked like something was broken!

I shot it one time. I hit the target. I then handed it back to him, saying, "just not for me".

Anyway, it's OK to "peek" over to the Dark Side. Just don't spend too much time there! If you do, we will have to take back your 1911 card!

One of my wayward, dis-respectful, children has a double wide, ported, .45ACP glock. He really, really likes it.

I have a glock 36 that I could easily learn to have a tolerable aquaintence with. Don't tell anyone on the 1911Forum, but I secretly kinda like it and a Fobus paddle for OWB carry here in Texas.

After having plenty of time at work to fondle and dry fire all the Glocks, I have narrowed
it down to the generation 4 G19 or the G26. I like the gen4 because of the new stippling design
and the three interchangeable back straps. With the smallest back strap, it doesn't feel like I'm
holding a brick like with the gen3 models. Also the gen4 comes with three magazines.

I know there has been a recall of the gen4 recoil springs but Glock will promptly send out the
replacement with a simple phone call.

There are a couple of reasons why I want to carry the Glock over my beloved Kimber. The first is
the higher capacity. The second reason, which is the most important to me is that I don't beat up
the Kimber because of the line of work I'm in...(not the gun store job, but my primary job).
..... I wouldn't mind so much abusing the Glock.
