I hope it is related enough to not hijack, but why is there no penalty for company's that continue to have a policy in violation of this law?

I would not be as worried if someone stole a gun while in a parked car as I would be what they might use it for.

My employer just today posted the new revised policy for Texas (with the twelve or so other states that have similar laws). It's universal policy in to not have firearms on their property, but they do adjust their policy on a state by state basis to comply with the law. Major retailer.

No change in my company's policy yet. It is supposedly still being looked at by the lawyer.

You can get in touch with the NRA-ILA grass roots and report it and they will assist you.

Assist me with what? Trying to get the brand new law changed to add a penalty?

My company will change their policy. I hope they don't try something funny, but they will/are changing it. If they do try pulling a fast one and I am unsuccessful in getting them to correct it I may have to contact the NRA-ILA.

Nothing about this new law negates those 30.06 signs. They will still make it illegal for you, or anybody else with a CHL, to carry a gun when leaving the car. Thanks to the MPA, the 30.06 signs had no bearing on having a gun in the car. The only thing this law does is prevent some employers from making it against company policy to have a gun in the car.

I do not mean to downplay the importance of this law. It is one of the good ones.
So not true. The posting of a 30.06 sign indicates a policy, for which they are not allowed, by law, to have with regards to employees. That sign is meaning less to employees' vehicles in the parking lot. They could post it to prevent us from carrying in the building, but it is only effective for non-employees in the parking lot. I'm not sure how the law actually interprets the difference, but the sign wouldn't apply to employees.
As I said in my earlier post, the sign will apply to all CHLs once they step out of their car and it will not apply to anyone (assuming MPA eligible) while in their car.

Gunbuster signs on the gates to the parking lots (we have 3) came down yesterday! Company is doing a decent job of complying with the new law. Still can't carry inside the facility and I don't see that changing. Company had a small layoff yesterday too and we had police onsite as a precaution.

If you are saying that the 30.06 sign will still keep a CHL from carrying on their "premises", then yes, I misunderstood your post. Until 9.1.11, a posting of a 30.06 sign in the parking lot prohibited a CHL from having a gun in their car in that parking lot whether someone were an employee or not. So, it does at least change that.

My company sounds like yours with the exception of their complete ignorance about 30.06. I did, however, find in the employee handbook where it says that all visitors are prohibited from carrying a gun on the property. How ridiculous is it to think that they will have any authority over a visitor that has never seen this handbook. It's not even the correct wording. There are no signs on the property to prohibit weapons. There are no searches or scans before entering the building. :banghead:

Yes, that is what I am saying. I am also saying that it includes the parking lot unless they are in their car. My company has valid 30.06 signs at every entrance to the property. You can't drive onto our campus without passing one. The best I will be able to do is leave it in the car. They also have a no weapons policy that specifically mentions firearms and ammunition. I haven't seen or heard of any intent to change the policy and communicate it to us.
