...we REALLY need a sarcasm smiley...I KNOW this was posted in jest...

Actually, we have this :roll: but it tends to get a lot of people's goat.

That's the "I'm rolling my eyes at you" smiley.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

"rlol" Certaintly would get my attention (but I'm not sure that I would continue attending)...
The first church to be established in Masterson TX was done so by a preacher with a gun. The cowboys didn't want a church....there would go the bars and saloon girls (they thought). Preacher came to town, announcing there would be church services that night. A man came to him saying "The Jones boys are planning on waiting till you get in the pulpit, lasso you out, tie you up, tar you and put you on a train." Preacher just said "That so?" That night, preacher gets in the pulpit, pulls back his frock coat, pulls out two revolvers, cocks them and lays them on the pulpit top.... the first church in Masterson was established!

That doesn't convey sarcasm as much as derision. Its essentially a subtle way of calling someone an idiot.

I still think the best idea is to rename italics as the sarcasm font. its not like we use it for anything else.

For example:

Oldgringos post was very informative

Right...that's why I cited him :)
Keep in mind your quote from him is deadly force incidents, rather than "church shootings." Fortunatly, most church shootings do not result in death. He lists 69 such incidents this year http://www.carlchinn.com/Church_Crime_History.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or a sarcasm font, something! Sarcasm is so hard to project in print.

Agreed, not everyone appreciates or recognizes the subtlety of sarcasm. There are some who become :mad5 at a perceived sarcastic comment while others will "rlol" at the same comment. Then there is a third group who :headscratch in wonderment at comment's meaning and intent.
