The first church to be established in Masterson TX was done so by a preacher with a gun. The cowboys didn't want a church....there would go the bars and saloon girls (they thought). Preacher came to town, announcing there would be church services that night. A man came to him saying "The Jones boys are planning on waiting till you get in the pulpit, lasso you out, tie you up, tar you and put you on a train." Preacher just said "That so?" That night, preacher gets in the pulpit, pulls back his frock coat, pulls out two revolvers, cocks them and lays them on the pulpit top.... the first church in Masterson was established!

Agreed, not everyone appreciates or recognizes the subtlety of sarcasm. There are some who become at a perceived sarcastic comment while others will at the same comment. Then there is a third group who in wonderment at comment's meaning and intent.
