30.06 to the chest. Bad dude is lucky to be alive.

SAN ANTONIO -- A man was shot moments after he burst into a home Monday afternoon on the city's North side.
According to neighbors in the 300 block of Countrywood, the 35-year-old man ran out of a Mercedes Benz that had pulled up in front of the home, where he was met with gunfire upon entering the residence.
Neighbors said the man was shot in the lower chest with a 30.06 rifle.
"(The) burglar was pounding on the door (and) the homeowner came downstairs (and) he saw the door bowed-in," said San Antonio police spokesman Matthew Porter. "(The homeowner) looked through the peep hole, saw the suspect banging on the door. He got hit on the face as (the burglar) was kicking it in."
The man was transported to University Hospital in critical but stable condition, Porter said.
Officers discovered drug paraphernalia in the trunk of the Mercedes. Porter said that the car did not belong to the suspect, but instead borrowed it from an acquaintance.
The man will face a charge of burglary of a habitation, Porter said.
He said it didn't appear that the would-be burglar was armed. The 33-year-old homeowner is not expected to be charged.

It's amazing he is alive.
Must have missed his vitals.

Borrowing a brand new CLS500 to do a home burglary/home invasion? :headscratch
There is a personal aspect to the incident. Most likely the attacker knew the victim, it was not about money or stealing property.

here in the video, an old guy stresses the importance of owning a gun for home defense and having a CHL.

My "Zombie"/TEOFTWAWKI" load for my M1 Garand is 45grs of IMR 4895 and a Hornady 152gr A-Max bullet.

I shudder to think what that would actually do to someone...

We have been dealing with this type of crime since we moved into our brand new subdivision. Since that first Christmas thugs from a nearby bad subdivision have been coming in and breaking into cars and houses. It is pathetic and the day cannot come soon enough when we move away from there.

Out of San Antonio or the subdivision? Personally I want out of San Antonio. Would like to find myself in the Georgetown area. Or better yet, Canyon Lake.

To be honest whatever comes first. With the job market the way it is I cannot be very picky about a job. So, if a good job opportunity takes me out of SA or Texas then I will have to take it. I agree with you. We would ideally like to find ourselves in the Austin, Brenham, Boerne, or Hill Country areas if we stay in Texas. Like I said earlier, it all depends on where the job is...if it is.

It has gone so far that we have hired off duty LEO to patrol our subdivision and pool area Fri-Sun. The pool is for residents only and you have to have a key to get in. The thugs come from surrounding areas and were waiting for someone to go in and follow them. Then they would call their thug friends and let them in. It was so bad we couldn't use our own pool. Then at night they would jump the fence to swim and then vandalize the area (breaking things, spray painting, knocking the fountain in the kid's pool over etc.).

again SA.
That used to be a decent area with some nice homes but has become one of the places you don't venture into if you don't have to, especially after dark.
