Lots of rumors so far but no confirmation. As an Aggie, I'm excited about the possibility.

Best possible move Aggies could make. Big 12 is a dead conference walking. UT is setting the stage to become this decade's Notre Dame - an independent with it's own TV network. The Aggies being the only Texas-based SEC school would drastically improve their recruiting efforts. The fourth-best draft-eligible player on SEC teams sometimes gets drafted in the first round by NFL teams because scouts know that if you can play in the SEC week after week, you can likely play in the NFL.

They better stay on the porch. They can't run with the big boys.

"rlol" "rlol" You do understand that playing better teams makes you play up to their level, right? Which teams should we play to get better? Iowa State and Baylor, or LSU and Alabama?

There are only 2 SEC teams ranked higher than us in preseason. Granted, preseason rankings don't mean much...after all, if the tea sips can fail to qualify for a bowl last year and still get ranked... ;-) . LSU quit their series with us in the 90s because they were tired of being beat. If all you know or remember of Aggie football is the Fran era then I can see why you'd be so skeptical.

Let's just take a look at Aggie Athletics real quick:
3x defending National Champions in mens and womens track and field.
defending NC in womens basketball. Our mens BB team makes the playoffs every year.
baseball and softball teams make the playoffs every year
NC is golf and equestrian
on and on.

We have a state of the art new track facility, new baseball stadium is being built right now, a large and very active Alumni fan base..

Anyone who thinks Texas A&M athletics as a whole and football in particular aren't on the rise are either mad about it, or not watching. ;-) :thumbs2:

I think the saying is big "dogs" not big "boys".
The Aggies will do just fine in the SEC.

Although the SEC did not extend an invitation to A&M today, some experts feel that the move by the SEC not to extend the invite was because A&M hasn't asked yet. Looking at this statement from the A&M President:
"As we have seen over the past several days, there has been a considerable amount of misinformation regarding these discussions and any associated timelines. The chairman of our board has indicated that the regents will proceed with tomorrow's agenda item, which authorizes the president of Texas A&M to take all actions related to athletic conference alignment. I will also accept Chairman Branch's invitation to participate in his committee's hearing on Tuesday. These are extremely complex issues, and it is imperative that we proceed methodically and in the best interests of Texas A&M."
Sounds like it isn't done yet. It'll be interesting to see what happens by the end of the week.

Good article on the legal issues that will arise from all of this, and why the SEC may be trying to lay the groundwork to deny lawsuits later:

I had that thought as well. It would be a brilliant move for them. "Want to play against the big boys in the SEC but stay in Texas? Come to A&M!"

As someone tweeted on TAMU: Texas A&M just changed their relationship status from "It's Complicated" to "Single"....... :)
