Great CHL discussion with a Tx State Trooper last night
We both were watching the first NFL pre season game between Denver and Dallas. And we began with small talk about NFL stuff. I was carrying and a little nervous but my curiosity got the best of me so I broached the CHL subject. I asked him how do the LEOs feel about CHLers(understanding he doesnt speak for them all but in general) He says that basically they dont consider it a big deal because most people can carry in their vehicles anyway. He also says that when he sees a CHL it doesnt make him feel any safer because that just lets him know you definitely have a weapon. He says in his mind set is, everybody is armed to him and he'll conduct his interaction as such until he is safely back in his vehicle. Then he told me to ALWAYS carry wherever possible. He says SOMETHING told me I should carry so I should follow my gut instinct. Even suggested how to carry in different scenarios. Suggested different personal safety things for my wife because she wants ZERO to do with guns right now(Im working her tho). He said pepper sray is a must and reccomended the a stun taser combo gun for her. Pointed out that she could use her keys in her fist as a weapon if need be. He asked if I had a safe(which I do). He suggested i get the finger print ID safe that'll open when the owner touches it. Every second counts(I have a dial now). He basically said even tho response time is 3 to 5 minutes here and thats Local PD, Sherrif or Trooper depending on where the call is. That's a long time if your life is on the line while your out and about. And most times they wont be called till after the event has occured. He asked what I carried then told me my choice of the XD sub was excellent. Then he went into the pitch about joining the Troopers(LOL) Evertime I talk to TXST they get recruity. Gotta love it tho. I walked away from this feeling even better about my decision to carry.

Sounds like a great interaction, thanks for sharing. It's a shame that the troopers especially get paid so little for what they do.

Smart muldoon. He says in his mind... everybody is armed to him and he'll conduct his interaction as such until he is safely back in his vehicle.
88 day wait for the state to approve my constitutional right to bear arms...

I posted something similar not too long back about a talk I had with a San Francisco city patrolman and he said pretty much the same thing about considering everyone to be armed. But he said that he wish California would give out more CHLs because he would at least know they've been background checked and not found to be felons. I thought it was a real common sense approach considering the city where he works...
