Wife just stopped by Childress PD

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Wife just stopped by Childress PD

#1

Post by FL450 »

Short story long, my wife and kids are on their way back from Gunnison CO after joining me up there this week to escape the heat. I just got back yesterday after flying my boss there. The kids wanted to play in the mountains. we even found some snow to play in at the 12000 level of Mount Crested Butte.
Back to the story on their way home on the second day of the 20 hour drive ( 2 hour flight for me but I am not rubbing it in). she was on the phone with me this morning telling me one of her tail lights wasn’t out (fast blinking on the turn signal) and that no auto parts stores were open yet to buy a bulb. (The Expedition requires removal of the lens assy. with a torx bit to access the bulb). About 15 minutes after hanging up one of my daughter’s text me "someone’s been a bad girl along with a pic of the LEO's car that had pulled her over. After the stop my wife called me and told me the LEO ask if she knew why he had pulled her over, she replied "because my tail light is out) to which he replied yes. After giving him her DL and insurance (she forgot to give him her CHL) he went back to run the info and upon returning he ask if she was carrying to which she replied "yes, I never leave home without it" (P-250-9MM with 16+1 and a spare mag of 16 she carries for road trips only but I am working on that), he replied good to hear gave her a warning and pointed her in the direction of he auto parts store which he said was about to open.
My thanks to the courteous officer with Childress PD
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.

I like what your daughter did. lol

I just knew reading this there would be a horror story in there somewhere....glad it didn't turn out that way. Small town cops seem to have a little more common sense sometimes when it comes to things like this.
:hurry: :hurry: good job Childress PD :hurry: :hurry:

I might even go as far as to write a letter to the Chief and city manager to make them aware that they've got a good one and they should hang on to him.

I text my daughter to tell my wife don't forget to hand over her CHL since this was the first time she has been stopped since she had it but it was to late.
Good suggestion on a letter to the chief complimenting the officer.

Good Old US 287!! It could have been much worse and she could have gotten stopped by Estelline PD, about 17 miles earlier. There would NOT have been a warning. That little town has been a Ticket Factory ever since I can remember, well over 40 years.

Also be glad it was not Whitehouse. They have no mercy. Even the Tyler cops have very little regard for them. Here is one example of why. I was taking my son to his elementary school, in Whitehouse. There is a car that has been pulled off, civilian car. In it is a uniformed officer from the Tyler PD who was evidentally taking his kid to school. The Whitehouse cop is busily writing up a ticket, and the Tyler PD officer is busily looking disgusted. My guess is most of these guys need to stay out of Tyler. I don't think they want to get stopped by their fellow LEO there.

...there's ways to teach the lesson of professional courtesy...we had a young state boy who delighted in writing tickets to PD officers, their families, firemen, you name it...arrogant as could be...we got enough of it and all began paying close attention to him...he got so many tickets in about 2 months...parking tickets in front of the courthouse, etc...he called a few of the boys and cried "Uncle"...last we heard of his personal "agenda"...what goes around comes around...

The NY troopers occasionally encountered the same type of issue with some of their new hires. When gentle senior counseling failed to accomplish the required training objective, those folks found themselves assigned to the Malone, NY barracks.

Check it out on Google Maps.

Malone is right up against the Canadian border where there are almost as many bears as people. Coincidentally, the night life is a little different than the urban NY settings most of these downstate boys were used to. The fresh air and good country living never failed to achieve what counseling could not.

I hope he was disgusted at himself for breaking traffic laws when he knows better.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Like it is often mentioned here, most any cop can find a reason to cite you if he follows you for a couple of minutes. I got cited, a couple of years ago, in Whitehouse, when I crossed a double yellow line to get into the left turn lane. I had watched people doing this for years. I had seen Whitehouse cops, DPS, motorcycle cops...everyone. This guy stops me and says, "People have been complaining, so we are writing tickets for this". Gee, why not write a warning? Guess it is because warnings do not generate $250 bucks in revenue. I had not gotten a ticket, before that, since Christmas day of 1981.

When push comes to shove, however, you are right. If you break the law, you break the law. When you get stopped for going one mile over, you broke the law. If you accidentally wander over the mid-line, you broke the law, if you activate your turn signal only 50 feet from your turn, you broke the law. However, where is the common sense. Doesn't a PD want to feel the support of the community? Don't they want to feel proud of how they are perceived? They don't have any respect that I have heard of. I will honor them, I will try to stay within the confines of any law on the books. I have lived my life honorably, and I go to great lengths to not violate the law. It drives my wife nuts that I will not go over the speed limit.

Oh, well...rant mode de-activated.

...they called me and woke me up one morning and told me the Chief wanted to see me in his office...I called his sec'y and asked why...told her I had just gotten to sleep...she said he wanted my ticket book...I told her I still had 4 tickets left...she told me "We've changed ticket format twice since you signed that book (of 25) out...I'd had it over 3 years...we DID NOT have quotas...and I personally just about had to be spit on before I'd write a ticket...50 or 60 dollars woulda ruined my payday, and I figured it'd hurt others, too...I stopped hundreds...but a warning sufficed most times...
...everyone messes up...sooner or later...most don't get caught...out of the ones that do, less than 10% have the attitude that needs a ticket to make the point...most folks just need a reminder...I hate the idea of writing tickets to produce revenue...I hate quotas...but try getting a city manager to feel the same way...good luck...and I don't believe in luck...
...ameer...I once stopped the Fire Chief...he rolled a stop sign...I fussed at him hard and he thanked me for the reminder...but I didn't hit him in the back pocket...cops don't have to write cops and firemen...it's a brotherhood thing...and they earn every break they get...a cop writing another cop for a minor violation is kinda like that white stuff on top of chicken poop...a DUI is something totally different...there's a no-mercy stop for anyone...
