Women's joging setup?

#1

Post by Bulldog1911 »

OK, my wife and I started jogging last year. We're not avid marathoner's or anything, but a couple light (2-5) mile jogs a week. Since she is a teacher and has the summers off, there are some times she wants to go out for a jog without me. Or take the kids to the park etc. Any women in here have a good holster/setup for this type of stuff. She has a Sig P238 so small and lightwieght. Just need to know what holster to get her. Any suggestions welcome.

She could try a smartcarry, it would absorb sweat but can be used under running shorts. I have used a fanny pack and placed my Kahr MK40 inside. I know fanny packs scream handgun, but there are some people that still use small fanny packs when exercising.

Being a man, what I do may not apply directly to something your wife could use but for what it's worth ...

I put my Ruger LCP in a tight-fitting belt-slide type holster (mine is homemade, but anything that doesn't bulge too much will work) and slide that onto a 5.11 Tactical lightweight web belt (the kind with plastic buckle many use for boarding airplanes without having to remove belt for metal detector - cost ~ $15). Put on the belt/holster set up FIRST, tighten as much as you can comfortably stand it since belt is against bare skin. Then pull on my jogging shorts OVER the belt/holster and tighten draw string tightly over belt/holster set up. Let my t-shirt ride untucked over that. This completely conceals gun, but leaves it in proper draw position for easy muscle memory if you need to draw it quickly (no practicing with new carry/draw methods), and the draw string on the jogging shorts retains everything securely.

My alternate jogging carry method is LCP in a Kangaroo Carry holster, which requires an under-shirt cross draw almost like a shoulder holster but even less intuitive.

As an aside I've tried fanny packs and they really get in the way for me while jogging. Smart carry might work better for women and if the smartcarry is positioned to side (3 o'clock) it should work similarly to the set up I described above. But in the advertised forward position while running? Not something I'd like to having bouncing around "down there" :eek6 while I'm jogging

Jogging with not likely ideal, but I have P238 that I carry in a comfort carry IWB with a lightweight belt on my shorts. I use a belly band with my scrubs and that might work while jogging... very comfy, but gets kinda hot. I use Underarmour type undershirt with both of them. I also have a pocket holster, but most of my shorts do not have big enough pockets.

I never used it jogging, but the fanny pack stayed pretty secure. I used to jog between 0330 and 0430 so I did not have to worry about anyone seeing me. I also carried a Surefire flashlight but I held that in my hand while jogging.

I have tried several fanny packs, but have found this one to work best. I jog at odd times, so carrying is a must. It moves a little while jogging, but I just make it tight and seems to work fine for me. I jog with my favorite pistol, Glock 17.

I do the same thing but I put on spandex first to keep the belt off my skin

when I go walking my dog by myself I wear a small fanny pack, carries my phone and one of my guns, LCP or S&W j frame. It's not a 'gun pack'...I have one of those, this one is a lighter-weight one, I just slip the gun in an empty zipper space.

I don't jog, but I think if on snug, it would be pretty good.

I am working on a sew-on attachment for a danskin or underarmour type shelf bra tank to be worn under a ladies jogging jacket. Will be investigating this and other options as I like to walk/jog and I'm most usually by myself. I will be posting updates on my blog and if it works, a tutorial so others can DIY.

When the wife and I go out jogging we normaly carry a camel pack with us. ours has pockes we stick a pistol in. Not the fastest draw, but it keeps the pistol dry and concealed.
