Houston: Police officer in shootout on west 610

#1

Post by seamusTX »

A uniformed Houston police officer driving his personal vehicle was traveling north on I-610 near Market around 3 a.m. today when he heard gunshots and saw a passenger in a vehicle pointing a weapon at him.

He attempted to follow and identify the vehicle. The occupants first tried to evade and then stopped and tried to shoot and run over the officer, who had gotten out of his vehicle.

The suspects got away. The vehicle is identified as a tan Chevrolet Silverado with dark, tinted windows. The officer got only a partial license plate number: CN followed by either a 2 or a 7.

No motive is known.

This area is not on anyone's list of garden spots, and now even 610 is more dangerous than I thought.

Curious, I wonder if the officer was a random target or if he was wearing his uniform or anything else that marked him as a Police Officer. I am glad that the officer was alright and I hope they catch bg.

"...driving his personal vehicle..."

...we can hope that some of the officer's shots found a home and the perp dies of gangrene, a slow and painful death...

A DPD friend on mine has said that they have been warned that the Mexican drug cartels are trying to kidnap off-duty police in their personal vehicles. The best way to identify them is because they usually wear their uniforms to and from work.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

If they were trying to kidnap the cop, they took a pretty stupid approach, namely, shooting at him while driving on one of the most heavily traveled highways in Texas, probably at 60 to 70 MPH.

If I had to guess, I would think they were just stupid criminals who had lost the use of the few brain cells God gave them by smoking crack.
