This is not a joke.

It's too bad there hadn't been a good guy there to stop him.
It looks like the husband was the only shooter. It might have been possible to stop him had there been a CHL or LEO there. I'm always carrying whenever we're at our local rink. No, I don't skate anymore.

It would be really hard for me to shoot a family member. Even if it were my wife's family, I might hesitate to shoot into, or past a crowd of innocents.
Definitely!!!

However, even it were my own brother and he started to shoot his kids I would stop him.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Rampages at Texas roller rink, Washington low rider show, AZ motorcycle rally, plus gun-related carnage in Norway. This has been quite a weekend for gun-related mayhem. I suspect we'll see some backlash in the coming weeks. :bigmouth

I bet if he was we would have heard about it by now.

This was a Texas family, although your point about cultural heritage is well taken. This was something I did not know about Vietnamese culture.

All of these recent attacks are tragedies, and are going to be used as ammunition against firearms rights. The shooter at the party in Florida was likely illegally carrying since it was described as a "teen" party. The biker rally and low rider show seems to be a toss-up though, because I can't seem to find any information. And if anything, the Norwegian shooter can be an example of why firearm registration won't do anything to stop people who are determined to kill.

After protective order, were his collection of firearms seized? Did he buy the handgun after the protective order dismissed?

...name an area of life where the pressure's not growing...for all of us...we either learn to deal well with the pressure and hold to what we know to be right...or we won't be strong enough emotionally to stay on even keel...it's not going to ease up anytime soon...got to keep swinging back to true North to keep our bearings in this jungle...

...it'd do to help all our families to find good ways to relieve the stress...like takin' 'em shooting...or fishing...seeing trouble coming is part of our mental awareness...we can all be surprised at how family members aren't coping well...and be ready to help them...

If he was they probably would have raised the roof shouting it out. I get chills thinking about that place. I virtually grew up there on the weekends.

Based on the 10 o'clock news, he probably wasn't. He had a history of domestic violence and a previous court order to stay away.

On a personal note. I spent a lot of time there as a kid. The only thing I'm surprised at is that it took this long for something like that to happen there,

According to Julie Tam on the NBC5 News in Dallas on the 6PM broadcast tonight (7/25), the killer had a "license for his gun." I watched all of the film clips on their website but that part of the story was not in any of the clips. That statement may not be accurate.

The protective order was issued but rescinded I wonder who is responsible to have a CHL revoked when a protective order is issued? I would think that local jurisdiction that issued that order would be the ones to do it. The order was old enough that some action should have occurred if it was ever going to happen. Based on the order being cancelled, I'm not sure what should have happened. I'm also not sure that it would have made any difference, even if his original gun were taken.

This may be another case like the Arizona shooting where disqualifying information was not used to try to thwart an identified problem.
