CHL holders get arrested more than you guys think. I've hooked two up in the past 12 months, and helped my partner with a third.

Actually, I can log on to the DPS site and see how often CHL holders get arrested, at least for certain categories of crime. I think our record is pretty admirable. Unfortunately, there are people with clean records, but marred psyches, who are able to get licenses...and should not. These people are going to do something stupid, sooner or later. Does not matter if they have a CHL or not, they are going to be stupid somehow or another.

That would be one interesting stat to see.

I've looked for it, but nobody seems to collect stats on conviction rates among law enforcement. I'd bet it is similar to CHLs, or to any other segment of society with a clean background. The best predictor of future criminal behavior is past criminal behavior, and neither group tends to have a history of that.

-I guess the objective question would be what percentage of your arrests did that two or three arrests amount to?

-The subjective question would be how do you as an LEO feel in general about the CHL population, or does it even factor into your day to day activities?

I am not trying to sound like I am nit-picking. Your statement simply generated those questions in my mind.

I actually saw that posted here a while back. I could be wrong, but I even think it was Charles who posted it.

I too would like to see the numbers. Should be able to find them from dps (CHL arrests) and TCLEOSE (Leo arrests) websites.

The website Injustice Everywhere attempts to track police misconduct and produces an annual report available here. Scroll down to the section labeled "Misconduct Per Capita", and you'll see the following:

When current data is filtered to examine only incidents that can be classified as violent crimes as specified per the US FBI/DOJ Uniform Crime Reporting standards and then compared with the 2009 FBI/DOJ UCR Crime in the United States report as a per capita general population and per capita law enforcement basis the results indicate that overall violent crime rates are not too divergent between the two population groups with a difference of only 20.1 per 100k point between the two. However, there appear to be some more significant differences at a more granular level with robbery rates for police far below those reported for the general population but sexual assault rates are significantly higher for police when compared to the general population.

His conclusion is that police commit violent crimes at essentially the same rate as the general population. We know (from Charles' posts and elsewhere) that CHL'er commit crimes at a rate far less than the general population, so it stands to reason that CHL'ers commit crimes at a rate far less than LEO's.

This bit of yellow journalism does not highlight the word that appears throughout the website - "allegations" and "alleged". Police unfortunately receive this kind of bull all the time. If the 'injusticeeverywhere' folks had any legitimate statistics regarding actual convictions or guily pleas to bad acts then I'll listen. Not even concerned about the out of court settlements either as those are just to keep from having to spend even more money tying up courts and high paid attorneys. Just like your insurance company paying a rediculous claim rather than having a court date. Just my $.02
