Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
Burned Body Found in George Bush Park
Not a lot of details, just that the burned corpse of a woman was found at the park.
Yikes. Rather close to home.

One more reason to end the pointless Corps of Engineer gun ban (and ignore it within reason).

Wow, I forgot that was USACE ... I didn't make the connection to USACE until you said it .... thanks... they banned guns for everyone's safety, yup uh huh.

What does this mean for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers? ... Precinct 3 also operates and maintains the George Bush Park.
I almost got censored on another non-gun (fishing) forum griping about the murders at Lake Waco .... because it's "safe" now and they made it prettier ... so people feel safer ...

Re: Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
I'm new to CHL, but the more I read this board and become informed, I'm becoming more and more likely to carry in these places and just take my chances. Maybe I shouldn't say that out loud, but that's how I feel.
Re: Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
I frequent NON-ACE properties, I'll not pay entrance fees to them, and I resent paying to stock "their" lakes etc through TPWD, though I support TPWD... I go to river authority and LCRA properties a lot, city/county/State owned parks etc.

Passing the Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act of 2011 would be a nice response to Obama and DOJ trying to pass stricter gun controls

Well hang on now. If George Bush Park is on ACOE land then there must be some ACOE waiver since the American Shooting Center is located within the park.

I believe there is an exception if you are travelling to some sort of authorized sporting purpose and have your gun unloaded during transit.esxmarkc wrote:Well hang on now. I looked it up before for the same reason. I will try to find the exact wording for you.
I really just wish they had to post their area better. There is at least one bike route through the woods that takes you from Terry Hershey park and then dumps you out onto the trail at George Bush. I have no idea where the boundary actually is and didn't even realize they were connected at first.
Back on the topic of the thread though, it is kind of weird how this story just got ignored by the local press. Someone finding a body that is still on fire at a popular park seems sensational enough for the news to jump on it.
Edit: Here it is. Sorry if the formatting is messed up, I'm on a text-mode browser at the moment.
327.13 Explosives, firearms, other weapons and fireworks.
(a) The possession of loaded firearms, ammunition, loaded projectile firing devices, bows and arrows, crossbows, or other weapons is prohibited unless:
(1) In the possession of a Federal, state or local law enforcement officer;
(2) Being used for hunting or fishing as permitted under 327.8, with devices being unloaded when transported to, from or between hunting and fishing sites;
(3) Being used at authorized shooting ranges; or
(4) Written permission has been received from the District Commander.
(b) Possession of explosives or explosive devices of any kind, including fireworks or other pyrotechnics, is prohibited

Re: Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
esxmarkc lots of USACE properties have shooting ranges and even hunting/wildlife areas, you generally must have gun unloaded or disassembled, or in some parks not even possess a shotgun ... Park rules vary a bit, none honor State laws on CHLs or Motorist Protection Acts. Also see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28018" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Burned body in George Bush Park (Houston)
Scary...
Sorry if I'm commenting on the tangent, but I've driven American Shooting Center with my gun on my hip dozens of times. It never occurred to me or did I realize that was ACE land. Glad I'm reading this now.
As for the crime that happened there... that is scary and sad too... wow. What a bad place that park is for multiple reasons!

Yep, one US ACE park which has a hunting area, prohibits a shotgun in your car ... "POSSESSION is a presumption that you are hunting on Federal land out of season" other regs are some say shotgun ammo containing more than one projectile are prohibited (slug is ok for deer/boar etc ... but no pellets out of duck season or whatever) ... lots of regs.

I'm not sure many CHLers realize it, but a huge chunk of the parks in west Houston--over 30 square miles to be precise--is ACOE land: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=45584&p=557649#p557649.Scott in Houston wrote:Scary...

Thanks for the link. That could have been bad. I never drive through Bear Creek or Cullen, but I do through Bush all the time on the way to Katy.Skiprr wrote:I'm not sure many CHLers realize it, but a huge chunk of the parks in west Houston--over 30 square miles to be precise--is ACOE land: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=45584&p=557649#p557649.Scott in Houston wrote:Scary...
