This should almost go in the 'Never Again!' section, but for the fact that the person in question didn't survive :-(

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Poor guy was robbed and beat last year. This time the he died in a shootout with robbers. Reportedly the shooter took the security tapes to prevent identification.

Smarter than your average bear, that robber. I'd read that he took the security *camera*, but I don't believe everything you read in the press...sugar land dave wrote: Reportedly the shooter took the security tapes to prevent identification.
I know it's good to have the VCR (aka DVR) physically separate from the camera(s); I wonder how many people think to put the DVR in a physically secure location, like inside of a safe? You'd need a small access hole in the back of the safe for electricity and the camera feed(s).

...some businesses need to go back to the day when there was a man with a rifle up above the sales floor watching everyone who came in...shame that we're so "civilized" now...at least the good guys are...seems the scum is still scum....

Can't recall the exact story, or provide a link but somewhere in the past I read about a bank in a ruralspeedsix wrote:...some businesses need to go back to the day when there was a man with a rifle up above the sales floor watching everyone who came in...shame that we're so "civilized" now...at least the good guys are...seems the scum is still scum....
area that had a small, elderly, inconspicuous security guard.
Two guys came in to rob the bank and either didn't notice this old man, or thought he was harmless.
This little old man drew a 1911 and dropped both of the robbers. :-)

Doing that would void the UL rating required for insurance unless it was something provided by the manufacturer and included in the rating test.RHenriksen wrote:Smarter than your average bear, that robber. Aren't there video security cameras that stream to a website so robbers would never be able to confiscate a physical device in the store?

Interesting, why? Concerns about overheating?Excaliber wrote:Doing that would void the UL rating required for insurance unless it was something provided by the manufacturer and included in the rating test.RHenriksen wrote:Smarter than your average bear, that robber. Safes are UL Fire Rated for certain amounts of time and that would invalidate the fire rating by poking a hole in it.RHenriksen wrote:Interesting, why?
