Philbo, Seeing as we have already had this discussion on two other forums, I would prefer not to argue with you on yet another forum. "No magnum rounds" is as self explanatory as we can possibly make it. rqFLSTFB, thanks for your support, if you like tac1, I look forward to your move to tac2. You will enjoy the instruction, Justin is one of the best I have ever shot with and learned from. And Chuck is a helluva good guy. We've been trying to get him to come on full time for a couple of years now, give him a little encouragement, will ya? We're putting in more AC vents shortly, so the Tac areas will cool down more as well. Shoot straight!philbo wrote:In that case maybe you can clarify that No Magnums Rule of the range... I get that it includes hunting loads, sometimes includes 357's and sometimes not, but does it apply to that new 327 Magnum of mine? So far no one will answer from your facility. You can PM if you'd rather...GunsOverTexasRadio wrote:I appreciate you trying to get to know the rules before you started shooting.

Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
And that's the disconcerting part... depending on the front desk help Magnum Rounds has included 45 Colt from a model 25 and 44 special from a model 29. Others have pointed out some inconsistencies with policies as well and I was just asking a point of clarification. Can I get a yes/no?GunsOverTexasRadio wrote:Philbo, Seeing as we have already had this discussion on two other forums, I would prefer not to argue with you on yet another forum. 10-4 on the encouragement for chuck i'll say something next time!
i didn't have enough time to shoot the tact1 class last wednesday so i just did some range time with my new p238, but i'll be there next wednesday 6:45 sharp!
i guess this is just the nature of retail; Some people have issues with a business some people dont.
Every question i've asked to the shiloh guys for little over a year now has been answered.
As a matter of fact, the guy behind the counter last time i was there told me directly:
"Man, dont sweat it, just ask as many questions as you want"
This is the attitude that makes businesses succeed IMO.
If they have policies, well, like it or not those are their policies... it's a private business after all.
Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
And that's it... I asked a simple question about whether or not my 327 is lumped in with the other magnums or not? More effort has been spent avoiding a direct answer which just plain baffles me. I'm trying to respect their stated policies and get a clarification before going to the range with a bunch of ammo I might not be allowed to shoot... a waste of time for everyone.rqFLSTFB wrote:As a matter of fact, the guy behind the counter last time i was there told me directly:

Just respectfully looking for a simple Yes/No...

Looks pretty clear and straight forward to me.GunsOverTexasRadio wrote: "No magnum rounds" is as self explanatory as we can possibly make it.
I love the place and the employees are great (the one's I've met and worked with). There is one new inexperienced helper but he's always there with the experts. Niko's the new manager there and he's doing a fantastic job. If you haven't been there lately you may want to check it out again.

.44 special and .45 long colt are, and have always been allowed. MMac, thanks for recognizing Niko's hard work. He's dedicated to his craft and we're lucky to have him behind our counter. We appreciate your patronage sir!
Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
And I guess that's the problem... you can ask all the questions you want, but don't expect any straight forward answers?rqFLSTFB wrote:As a matter of fact, the guy behind the counter last time i was there told me directly:

A simple yes/no on the 327 may just be be expecting too much...

Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
Well they let me shoot my .32 H&R with hot loads and they let me shoot my 10mm with hot loads so I don't think they will tell you no. A 200 grain 10mm (.40 caliber) bullet has a greater sectional density then any .327 Federal bullet that I know of. Most of my 10mm loads have chronographed higher then or equal to .357 mag loads so I don't see why they wouldn't let you. Talk to Niko or (I forget the other guys name) guy with the beard. They are very kind and will answer your questions. Just call and ask for Niko. I personally think they are more worried about the big boy magnums like .41 mag and up but like I said call and ask Niko.
Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
The only thing I can figure is that they attach some importance to the word Magnum... you can shoot your 10mm which is higher than or at least equal to the 357 magnum and even approaches 41 magnum loads... an inconsistency that goes unexplained. I've personally known shooters asked to pack up their N frame S&W's because they were magnums, even though they were shooting 45 Colt. It's been documented before. Hence the inconsistency in their policies which others have commented about here already as well. Their refusal to clarify the point and answer a simple yes/no question seems to speak volumes.CC Italian wrote:Most of my 10mm loads have chronographed higher then or equal to .357 mag loads so I don't see why they wouldn't let you.

Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
I have seen guys there with .357 mags but I don't know if they were shooting any heavy hot loads 180grain-200grain but I am positive if you pulled out a .44 mag you would get the boot. When I asked them about my .32 H&R magnum "which is not really a magnum" Niko said it was fine. I also told him I was shooting some hot Georgia Arms ammo and he told me it was good stuff and it was fine to use. That was the 100 grain running about 1100fps from my SP-101. My 10mm loads run anywhere from 1100fps-1650+fps and they have not said anything about the ballistic plating or me picking up my 10mm brass(I always try to clean my station and since they never haggle me on time I clean the other stalls in my area).
I have never had a problem with them. Like others have said they have a lot of new people behind the counter but Niko or the other guy with the beard(sorry forgot his name) are almost always there. If they won't let you shoot your .327 then just take it to one of the other ranges in the area that will, no big deal.

In fact I think I will go tomorrow and shoot some of the dust out of my Glock 20 and try to narrow down what the feeding problem is from my P95.
Re: Shiloh Shooting Range
I've already been invited to another range, but for such a friendly group they do seem to go out of their way to avoid answering some questions. Just curious as to the logic at that range. Ban on Magnums (however they define that) seems to be based on a word and not related to ballistic realities as you just pointed out.CC Italian wrote:If they won't let you shoot your .327 then just take it to one of the other ranges in the area that will, no big deal.
