S&W M&P Ka-boom w/ Wolf Ammo

#1

Post by Jumping Frog »

A guy I know posted this on another forum, and I thought you'd be interested in it.

A guy was shooting Saturday, he was burning up some ammo and seems to have had a cartridge that was over charged. Luckily he was not hurt.

It was Wolf ammo, and he knew this will open a bunch of negatives about the ammo but he has shot more than 10,000 rounds of Wolf ammo in 9mm,40,45acp and 223. and never an issue.

It was the ammo's fault. He had finished one box and was almost thru the second box. He was asked if it might have been a squib on the previous shot. He said the previous shot felt normal, but the one that did the damage felt like he was shooting his 500 S&W
when it went off. It even blew the primer out of the primer pocket, where it lodged in the top of the magazine.

Checked the barrel there is no bulge or split, the slide is jammed back and the magazine is jammed in also. He had to remove the mag. base to get the unfired rounds out. They weren't able to get any good pics of the barrel, cant really tell much from these pics, but the barrel was not bulged . Look at the base of the case how it crinkled.

He has contacted Wolf, they had him do a statement over the phone explaining what had happened and asked for him to send pics. They told him to send remaining ammo and pics, they are sending a UPS pickup tag for shipping. They are sending him 500 rds of free ammo and offered to exchange the 3000 rds. of other Wolf ammo that he has on hand, if he felt uncomfortable about shooting it. They also said for him to contact S&W about sending the gun back to be repaired or replaced at Wolf's cost.

S&W said no problem they would check the gun out and be in contact with Wolf. They told him all they will need is the information of the FFL that he uses due to a new frame with new serial #.

So let's see how this pans out and if Wolf hold up their end. He did say that the reaction he got from Wolf was very positive as that they would take care of everything. So let's hope they do.

I bet S&W will take care of it even if wolf doesn't. They're known to have very good customer service.

Should be no reason to go thru FFL. Glock sent me a new frame with new SN without going thru FFL.

Sure looks like the barrel was jammed, almost no other way to do that. If the round was over charged it would of split, not been shoved back. Keep us posted with new pics and what S&W says about it.

I own an M&P 45, and like anybody else, I am price conscious when it comes to practice ammo. But, there is a point beyond which I will not go. I'll buy Fiocce, Monarch (made by Prvi Partisan, and I will only buy the brass cased ammo), WWB, Magtech, UMC bulk packs, whatever I can get my hands on. But, I will not buy Wolfe ammo, and I won't buy any other brand that is steel cased. This is a prejudice of mine going back to AR15 ownership and repeatedly seeing 5.56 NATO cases from Wolfe ammo get stuck in other folks' AR15 bores, causing much grief to their owners.

The way I see it, if Academy is charging 14.95/box of 50 for Monarch 230 grain ball, and they are also selling Wolfe 230 grain ball for 12.95/box of 50, I might be saving a grand total of maybe 6 bucks for 150 rounds of ammo, but I might also be spending about 100 hours of my time trying to fix the damage done to my firearm by cheap ammo. I know what my time is worth, and $6 won't cover it.

+1.

The one time I had to use their customer service they were very freindly to deal with, made the repair at no cost, paid shipping both ways, and had the pistol back in my hands in ~7 days if I recall correctly.

They are a stand up group of folks.

Six for sure.

I had to use S&W customer service. They are the best. They paid shipping both ways. Had my gun back in less than a week and they thru in an extra mag for free. I can't say enough good things about them. I am sure they will make it right one way or another. I am also planning my next gun purchase ... yeah it's gonna be a S&W.

I started a thread about S&Ws customer service, in case you didn't read it, I think S&W customer service is some of the best out there. S&W and Apple have some of the best customer service I have seen. If I had to I would buy my M&Ps all over again... well I kinda got that 1911 itch, actually its more like a twitch so I would consider one of them too. Good luck to your buddy, i'm sure they will take care of them.

I've shot a whole lot of Wolf ammo with zero issues... I've heard of other ammo manufacturers having kabooms too, so I'm not changing anything.
