Dallas police officer arrested for theft

#1

Post by Pawpaw »

Dallas police officer Lavar Horne was arrested on Wednesday and charged with theft by a public servant.

Horne allegedly stole a motorist's gun during a traffic stop.

This is not Horne's first brush with trouble. He was suspended from the force after forging sick notes to his supervisor. He was also fired and reinstated after it was brought to light that his license was suspended.

News 8 will have more on this story as information becomes available.

Along the same lines and geography:

Recently a 43 year old Mesquite, TX police officer was convicted of stealing money during a drug bust.
Reports had been received that this officer, who was on the "drug" team of Mesquite PD, was taking money from
drug dealers at arrest time.

A sting was set up to catch him. The alleged drug dealer had $100,000 cash. The LEO in question stuffed $2,000
down his pants during the bust.

He went to the Town East Mall in Mesquite and bought a $480 watch. He later showed it off to fellow officers and
claimed that he bought it with his tax return.

The judge in his case decided to make him a poster child for a LEO breaking the law and he was given hard time.

This slipped my mind when I first read the OP:

viewtopic.php?f=83&t=41738" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I lived in the DFW area for ~15 years and it seemed there were a continuous stream of stories such as these. I know DPD is big department, but IMO something is either wrong with the hiring process or there is an attitude that permeates down that you can get away with it.

I'm not sure of the number but there have been several fired and/or arrested in the last couple of years. Just last month most of the Sheriff department was fired. County commissioners investigated, school district supers and city council members jailed. Makes you feel proud your not in Chicago.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

Many years ago I witnessed a police officer take a handgun at an accident scene after it was throw from the overturned truck (and the driver was still pinned inside).

He was also on the county Special Response Team *facepalm*
