Re: has anyone ever been shot?
Never been shot. Been shot at once about 20 some years ago while doing video work for the U.S. Border Patrol. I was standing on a the river bank with two agents at 3am when we heard a shot from the Mexican side. It sounded fairly far off and distant. My first thought was, "what is someone doing shooting at this hour". About five seconds later we heard another shot, and this time heard it zing by. Oh...they're shooting at us...time to go. We jumped in the truck and headed on down to river to a better spot.
I tell you all, those border patrol agents, particularly the graveyard guys, put up with some major grief that the average person does not realize. The border wall has gotten a lot of criticism, some fair, and some not, but I do think it provides a little protection for the patrolling agents.

I really admire that corpsman's attitude, and your dad's for returning the favor. The Annoyed Man wrote:The corpsman arrived shortly afterward. He was kneeling over my father while working to patch him up, and he (the corpsman) was hit in the shoulder and fell or was bowled over. He picked himself back up and went back to work on my dad, and he was struck a second time by a machine gun bullet in the thigh, breaking his femur. He propped himself back up and finished, then he laid down next to my dad and said, "My turn, I'll tell you what to do." While my dad was trying to apply a dressing to the corpsman's leg, the corpsman was struck a third time in the head and was killed.

Re: has anyone ever been shot?
I was out shooting my 20 ga shotgun when I was about 19. I head some "pops" and looked back behind where I was. There was a guy standing behind a truck, about 300 yards away, shooting what looked like a .22 rifle at me. I don't think there was enough velocity to carry the bullet all of the way to me; I don't think any of them came close. Even a more pathetic threat, at that distance, was my little shotgun. I popped off a round in his direction and he skedaddled into his truck and out of there.
To this day I have no idea why this guy decided to stop and take pot-shots at some 19 year old that was practicing with his shotgun. Perhaps he knew he could not hit me, but I am betting, if he aimed high enough, something could have made its way to me. I have not thought about that for many years! I don't remember being scared at the time.
I did get shot with a BB gun at point blank range...into my left thigh. It basically bounced off and left a blood blister kind of injury, and it hurt like hell. I think I was probably 12 or 13.

Re: has anyone ever been shot?
I have been shot, and it was the result of a Negligent Discharge on my part a few years ago. I saw something falling and out of instinct I tried to catch it. What I attempted to catch was a falling 1911 with an ambi safety. When you catch it just right you can defeat the grip safety with your thumb on the rear of the beavertail, the swell of your palm can disengage the grip safety, and the ring finger (or it may have been the little finger) can press the trigger. I lost a little flesh that did grow back, learned that the knife rule applies to guns as well, and lost a little money to the ER. I still own that gun, although I did trade it off and eventually got it back. If you search back far enough you can find where I originally posted it.

Yes, in Baqubah, Iraq about two years ago, but I got lucky I was wearing an IOTV and my front ESAPY plate caught the round. Just a few cracked ribs. If that even counts as being shot.

Re: has anyone ever been shot?
I have never shot anyone, nor have I been shot. However, my brother shot my sister when they were both kids (12 & 5 respectively). He was playing with a bee bee gun, thought he had emptied all the bee bees out, pointed it at my sister and shot. It hit her in the eye, and the ER doctors said that it would have blinded her had it been one hair closer to the eyeball itself.
He still feels horrible. We are now at a point that we can laugh about it in the family, and he is the only one that doesn't find the jokes funny. We were all taught the basic gun safety rules, but I've learned that children's fantasies & lack of wisdom often gets the better of them; I have decided to keep my guns in a touch-combination safe until I can trust the little one to defend the home herself.
