There are deals to be had, retail pricing is not the best available but you save shipping and FFL fees in exchange for parking and entry. The ffl fees are still usually more by a few dollars. Cash is king at any show usually. Better price and the ability to haggle and buy from private parties. If you whip out plastic and try to start haggling their profit just went in the toilet or YOU are paying the CC fees with your purchase...

I love going to shows with a few hundred bucks in my pocket. I see what I can find, usually laugh a good laugh at some of the patrons, eat a few samples of beef jerky, and maybe come home with a new toy. Either way if I have no other plans I like the hunt for a good deal. It makes me feel like I won for once.

you're not going to the same ones I go to... today in San Antonio, new group's show w/800 tables or so; hard to imagine anything you might want that wasn't there. Dealers from all over Texas w/lots of inventory...

i go to the HGCA shows to look at the old military memorabilia and weapons. at the last HGCA show i did venture to a few vendor booths looking for a deal on a snub-nose .38 special but ended up finding a better deal on a new gun at Tomball Pawn. the only show i plan on going back to is the HGCA show, i didn't find anything of interest at the GRB shows the last few times i went.

They have lots of inventory at the Real Gunshow and High Caliber shows at the Pasadena Convention Center (in Pasadena). I went to one earlier this month and they had Ruger LC9s (right after it came out), and I even saw a Kel-Tec PRM-30 (that's the 30-shot .22Mag pistol), which are apparently next to impossible to find anywhere in the country. In my opinion, the deals aren't quite as juicy as they were a couple years ago during the Obama gun boom.

Actually, they didn't have everything... I don't believe I saw a single Kahr there.

I am more irritated by the ammo bottle at the front door. They make you throw your ammo in that bottle and then the first booth you go to, there is someone selling the same thing you just had to throw in the bottle. Makes no sense to me at all. I can't bring ammo in because I might load up the magazine of the gun they just zip tied open? I guess the ammo they sell in the gun show is trained not to be loaded in the building.

Don't tell them you have ammo. I unload inthe parking lot and put in my pocket. They have no logical reason to take it as you pointed out so "just say no". You are breaking no law and as I see it no moral code since the show is illegally posted.

It's a carpetbagger conspiracy. Where are most insurance company's headquarters located? In New York City. BTW, the gun show promoters are LYING! It's not that the insurance requires the 30.06 sign, but that the insurance would be more expensive if there is no 30.06 posting. For example, at the NRA annual meeting in Arizona in '09, I was carrying. I was carrying at the NRA "gun show". There were no gun ban signs present. Only events where they served alcohol were posted with gun ban signs. If you can carry at an NRA gun show, then how come you can't carry at other gun shows? What about Friends of the NRA meetings? These are kind of like gun shows. You bid for guns at auctions. I have been to many of these meetings/gun auctions and none of them are 30.06 posted. Some of these shindigs are bigger than some smaller gun shows. So, if you can carry at NRA gun shows, how come you can't carry at other gun shows? Because these 30.06 sign posting gun show promoters are Lying, greedy, carpetbagger lovers, that's why!

Guys, thanks for bringing this gun show 30.06 situation to my attention. I was totally oblivious and ignorant of this issue because I never carry to gun shows. I don't see the point in carrying a gun to a gun show because I'm going to walk out of there with plenty of guns and ammo. Plus, there are lots of cops there, too. However, the fact that carrying isn't a necessity at a gun show is irrelevant because posting that 30.06 sign is a violation of our 2nd amendment civil rights. What really chaps my hide is that a GUN SHOW promoter is doing this! Of all people, a gun show promoter should know better than to infringe on our right to bear arms!

Let's boycott 'em and write 'em.

It's not a lie. I'm on the insurance subcommittee of the NRA Finance Committee and I've asked this precise question to several providers, including those with Lloyds. Insurance companies want nothing to do with covering gun shows because of the perceived greater risk of accidental discharges at those events. Unfortunately, the few times this happens gets noticed in the insurance industry. In theory a higher premium could be offered/paid, but that's illusory. If any Lloyds syndicate offered the coverage, the premium would be cost prohibitive, the promoter couldn't pay it, and if he did, people couldn't/wouldn't pay the entry fee that would be required.

You can carry at NRA events because the convention centers and hotels want our business. When we come to a city, we bring tens of millions of dollars with us. Plus, they already have CGL coverage and they don't require us to get additional coverage. When we came to Houston a few years ago, we made the City scrape their unenforceable 30.06 language off of the glass at the Reliant Center. The City was happy to do it.

Friends of the NRA Dinners (FONRA) are not "gun shows" in the insurance world They are a dinner and auction where people are no more likely to draw their concealed handguns to try on a holster or show them off than they would when dining out or attending any other fundraiser.

But the insurance industry spends tons of money on analysts and risk assessment. Wouldnt they notice that gun show issues are few and far between? I only remember 2 in the last several years in houston and there are dozens of shows each year here. This makes less sense than bad credit meaning you are a bad driver.

I'm not going to waste a stamp. They made their choice. My choice is to spend my money somewhere else. Everybody wins!
