Perry making a presidential run
It seems to me that Gov Perry may be looking at making a presidential run. As I am not living in TX right now I don't know much about Perry. What do you who have had to deal with him the past few years think of such a man as president?

Re: Perry making a presidential run
Certainly better than any other Candidate that is running now.
He has been the longest serving Governor of Texas in history for many reasons.
One of which is his understanding and support of the 2nd amendment.
EDIT: added the 2nd amendment reference to keep this thread gun related.

As much as I appreciate Gov Perry's 2A support, for a presidential candidate I'm leaning towards Pawlenty right now.

I'm leaning towards Herman Cain... but would love to see Allen West run... but we will all probably see Mr. Healthcare himself (Romney) win the nomination. I'm afraid because of the left central majority he'll be seen as the only electable choice.RHenriksen wrote:As much as I appreciate Gov Perry's 2A support,...

Tim is shooting himself in the foot attacking Romney right now, IMHO.RHenriksen wrote:As much as I appreciate Gov Perry's 2A support, for a presidential candidate I'm leaning towards Pawlenty right now.
Not a good strategy for the GOP if we want to beat BHO next November.

If they're not willing to attack each other, what makes you think they'll have the guts to attack obama when the media starts calling them racists?RoyGBiv wrote:Tim is shooting himself in the foot attacking Romney right now, IMHO.RHenriksen wrote:As much as I appreciate Gov Perry's 2A support, for a presidential candidate I'm leaning towards Pawlenty right now.

Now, I'd rather they not dig up damaging dirt on each other that the dems could use later, but by all means, tear into teach others polices for not being conservative enough!
Edit: To clarify a little more, I thought it was nauseating how much mccain fell all over himself to praise obama during the campaign. Have some guts! Let everyone know: He doesn't know what he's doing! He loves the perks and hates the job! His policies have done nothing to turn around the economy and have driven us further into debt!!
How hard is this, repubs?!

Re: Perry making a presidential run
See, I've heard some people refer to Perry as an "evil idiot" or some such thing, and they way they said made me think it was not just because they weren't republicans. I voted for him in the last election for two (and only two) reasons: he's pro-2A, and it would upset my liberal coworkers. As admirable as those two things are, the POTUS can do a lot more harm than a state governor, so I'd like to know more about his evilness, idiocy, and why you don't like him for president.RHenriksen wrote:As much as I appreciate Gov Perry's 2A support, for a presidential candidate I'm leaning towards Pawlenty right now.

Re: Perry making a presidential run
Like I said I don't know alot about Perry. I have only heard two things that have given me pause. One was his attempt (I don't know if it was successful or not) back in 2008 to require the HPV vaccine for all girls in school. I am not anti-vaccine necessarily, but I am pro-freedom and on this issue pro-choice. I think a parent should choose the vaccines that are most appropriate for their child and only a parent would know if a STD vaccine is appropriate for a 12 year old when the protection will wane by the time she is 18-20. My other issue with Perry has been his hemming and hawing over the anti-groping bill aimed against the TSA. I wish he would man up and bring it to the session.
Other than that I know little about Perry that is why I asked.

Not a real Perry fan and would not vote for him in a Primary.

My wife asked me a similar question last week. She asked what all I knew about Perry, as she felt he was getting ready to run.
I told her I knew all I needed to know, He's not President Obama.

Re: Perry making a presidential run
Rick Perry's mother is not as big of a supporter of him as am I. He's great on almost every issue in my view and this is something I can't say for any other Republican. Yes, I didn't like the HPV vaccine or the Trans Texas Corridor, but those are only two issues. I'd be hard put to find any Republican candidate that didn't differ from my views on a lot more than two issues.

My question would be are those two decisions indicative (as in are there more warning signs) of a politician who believes that the government knows best and "here take thisCharles L. I prefer:
1) Paul
2) Pawlenty
3) Perry
In that order.

I agree with Mr. Cotton. He is anything but a dumb - in fact - just the opposite.Charles L. Cotton wrote:The "dummy" and "idiot" garbage is nothing but Democrat tripe.

One of the things about the Gardasil fiasco was that he (apparently) had just accepted a large contribution from Merck (makers of Gardasil).
Here is a story; Several years back I was part of a group of people gathered at the capital to hear him read a proclamation. Now, I know these guys (politicians) do this kinda stuff every day and I know it gets old and I know there are other important things to take care of ... But he actually waited until he was gathered in front of us and, within earshot, asked his aid who we were and what this was about again.
So, I will of course evaluate each candidate based upon issues. But if I had to choose between Perry and another similar conservative in the primary, I would not check the box next to his name. But if he gets the elephant's nod, you better believe he will get my vote.
