My New CMP M1
Re: My New CMP M1
Mine SA M1 came in looking brand new as well, was quite surprised. Best part to me is the Feds deliver it to my door. My Carbine came in with the wood looking real bad but the metal was pristine so the stock went in the attic and after a new one installed it looks like new.

100yd target.
Here's my HRA service grade I picked up last week in Anniston. She's a sweet shooter, got lots of comments on the range. 10 clicks up from the bottom on the drum and it was sighted right in. lined up with the 200yd mark.
I had a problem where my 7th round would get jammed up against the feed ramp, i had to press it back down into the clip for it to load properly. Happened about half the time. I need to diagnose this problem, could be the gas tube ( haven't had a chance to clean it yet).
The clips came loaded in little bandoliers which was pretty neat. Definitely one of the favorite long guns in the collection.

Re: My New CMP M1
What ammo are you feeding it?
The part that stinks about shooting the M1 is that there isn't much in the way of affordable plinking ammo that is suitable to run through it. The surplus M2 ball is getting hard to find or it is expensive when I can find it. The American Eagle M1 ammo is running around a $1 a round.

Running M2 ball (HXP). Got 192 rounds for 96 bucks which is 50 cents a pop. Considering though that I got the ammo box ($10) and 24 clips ($24) and the 4 bandolier belt things ($10?), given that all these goodies have some value to me, it brings the actual price of the round down to around 28 cents which aint bad at all for 30-06 ammo.SQLGeek wrote:What ammo are you feeding it?

You can get this from the cmp online store, as soon as I get a few more paychecks, I'm going to stock up on a few more boxes of it.

Re: My New CMP M1
Good point about the clips and box. I didn't factor those in because I already have a ton of clips and quite a few ammo boxes so I was looking at the price per round.
I would give it a good cleaning, hit it with some grease such as lubriplate and see if it works any better for you.

Ammunitiontogo has the Greek Ball as well, plus it gets here way faster than ordering via CMP

Looks like they are out unfortunately. Wish I had jumped on a bunch of the Korean or LC ammo when CMP still had it.LongHairedRedneck wrote:Ammunitiontogo has the Greek Ball as well, plus it gets here way faster than ordering via CMP

Re: My New CMP M1
Question for you Garand gurus.
I stripped it down and cleaned the heck out of it. Action was pretty dry, but the op rod spring looked like it was dipped in brown grease, I got all that off. Do I need to replace that grease on the spring? it is not one of the lube points in the manual.

No, I don't put any grease there. I will run a rag with CLP over it but that's it.
