Re: Walgreens Pharmacist Gets Fired for Defending...
That may be the case, but the fact that Walgreens acted on it is what bothers me. Businesses may *have* to put this in their manuals per legal. But they have the discretion to enforce it. If they want a no weapons policy at work, that is their right. But in this situation, where the pharmacist had to choose between life and death, he chose correctly. Walgreens did NOT have to fire him. If CVS were to do this, I would express the same outrage.

I got the same automated response as everybody else I'm sure.
I'm sure the policy is the same at CVS, but I don't think it matters. The idea is to get the point across to Walgreens that they're losing business because of this. Then the business weighs the potential losses to lawsuits from collateral damage if an employee fights back against the losses from Pro2nd citizens refusing to do business with them.
We all know each of our emails are only a drop in the bucket, and that the Walgreens corporation will not change it's policy or give this man his job back. But it's better than nothing.
If we don't support our fellow Pro2nd citizens in times like these then we really have no hope for obtaining "Constitutional Carry"

Looks like you better find some place beside CVS:pbwalker wrote:That may be the case, but the fact that Walgreens acted on it is what bothers me. I know! It's hard to make a principled stand in a world where you can't even buy stuff that directly keeps you alive without violating your principles.40khammer wrote:I'm never shopping anywhere again!BrianSW99 wrote:Looks like you better find some place beside CVS:pbwalker wrote:That may be the case, but the fact that Walgreens acted on it is what bothers me. I got the same form letter today. I don't know if Kroger has the same policy but that's where we are planning to go.

I'm sure that all of the major chains will have very similar policies and we will likely be in the same situation with another retailer before long. It is good that we sent our views to the corporate office so that they can see that this decision on their part damaged their reputation. It may have zero impact on their policy, but it doesn't hurt to try.
Also, it looks like the CVS case involved the pharmacist chasing after the fleeing suspects and firing shots vs. the Walgreens case of the pharmacist firing at a guy that attempted to pull the trigger on him three times. Both are bad situations either way, but it would seem that there would be more chance for forgiveness in the Walgreens case....

One wonders if an "exemplary record of safety" includes two robberies and multiple larcenies occurring at just one of their locations. If so, then their standards are abysmally low. I would answer Benny H's email with that question.wo5m wrote:I also sent then an e-mail and got the following replyDear David,
Thank you for contacting Walgreens regarding this matter. Our policies in this area are designed to maintain the maximum safety of our customers and employees.Store employees receive comprehensive training on our company’s robbery procedures and how to react and respond to a potential robbery situation. In past incidents, employees have told us they’ve found this training effective. These policies and training programs are endorsed by law enforcement, which strongly advises against confrontation of crime suspects.Compliance is safer than confrontation. Through this practice, we have been able to maintain an exemplary record of safety. We’ve made significant investments in security technology in recent years, including increasing the number of digital surveillance cameras at our stores. With upgrades to security technology, we are able to provide police with high-resolution photographs and video of crime suspects. We continue to invest in state-of-the-art security measures and high-definition surveillance equipment and hope that the apprehension of robbery suspects in the Benton Harbor area will prevent future crimes. Thank you for contacting Walgreens to share your comments.
Sincerely,

Re: Walgreens Pharmacist Gets Fired for Defending...
Where I used to shoot, there was an employee that used to be a night manager at a commonly known convenience store chain. He had been robbed before and shot at and started to carry as a matter of routine. He was robbed one night, complied and was then fired upon. He returned fire killing one and either wounding or running off the other. He called 9-1-1 and his area supervisor. He said he was fired before the police got there. I am ashamed to admit that, though rare, I do have occasion to visit these establishments. I guess I'm a hypocrite.
On the pharmaceutical note, most of my recurring RX's are from TriCare Online Pharmacy. My acute needs are handled by a local, single owner, compounding pharmacy. I have it on good authority, though not verified, that the owner carries.

Wow, that's really sad that he was fired before the cops even arrived. Too bad the manager that fired him couldn't have been the one getting shot at that night.....Dragonfighter wrote:Where I used to shoot, there was an employee that used to be a night manager at a commonly known convenience store chain. I wouldn't say that you're a hypocrite at all. If given the choice, you'll take your business elsewhere, but there are times where you aren't given the choice.

I think I'm just going to start going to local small business stores instead of big chains. Unfortunately I don't know of a small pharmacy in Huntsville.

All the big chains have that policy find a neighborhood independant pay a few bucks more but make a statement to the big boys they can go to heck in a handbasket. The neighborhood stores are getting hard to find but the service is worth a few bucks extra. Our own desire for the low price leader has lead to the bean counters and lawyers ruining our lives.

Standing, kneeling, or down is irrelevant.Running Arrow Bill wrote:Agree. Overkill. Once down (generally), not a threat.
The operative criterion is whether or not a deadly threat is present.
Someone lying on the ground, even fatally wounded, and pointing a gun at you can shoot you just as dead as he could while standing.
