GT--Austin, good customer service

#1

Post by Bear67 »

I had a couple days volunteer service in Bastrop/Smithville last week and decided to run by GT distribututers before I returned home Thursday. My son had picked up several items for me there, but I had never been.

I was impressed by the selection and the pricing is good if not cheap. I was looking at gun belts and holsters and salesman asked if he could help. I said I was interested in a holster, but wished I could try my commander in the OWB to see how it actually felt. He went back and asked the gun counter about used ones and took me back, opened the holster, placed it on the belt I was purchasing, cleared the gun and handed it to me. He made a sale. I bought some more .357 SIG Lawman ($15.99), speed loaders, belt and holster.

There were lots of folks at the gun counter and you would have had a wait to handle pistols, but I figure I will be back whenever I am in the Capitol area. I have a couple of LEO trade-ins from GT already. Even if you don't buy anything from them, you should visit sometime. Expensive visits are not my fault. The only difference between a man and a boy is the price of his toys.

I second their service, but I have been there a few times before (dating back almost thirty years now). I was in there Saturday during the 5.11 sale, looking for some boots for my daughter. She was a little impressed with their servie at first - one of the salesmen told her that she could normally order almost anything from any of the brands they carry even if they don't stock it. Then she got annoyed as our half-hour visit became two hours from my talking with some of the salesmen who I know and recognized me from previous visits.

And the expensive visit part is also true. Went in for boots, spent $175 on gear and still do not have the boots.

Their ammo prices, especially for carry loads, are the best I've found, including on the 'Net, and almost infinitely better than local shops around Austin.

I agree with what everyone has said. Their customer service is great - enough to make me not mind the drive up from San Antonio. I've bought 3 handguns from them in the past year - very satisfied.

They have a location in Dallas too. I ran into one of their guys a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to get to their store yet (trucks broke down). Here's the info off their business card.

I'm working in Austin for a few days. I dropped by GT Distributors for a few minutes. The store is top notch. I wish there was one in Houston. I went in just to look around and came out with a Beta C-Mag. I saw a couple of other items I wanted, but I tossed myself out the door and dragged myself to my car before I could buy anything else.

+1 on the service and support at GT Distributors in Austin. I have bought two handguns from them and their prices are substanually lower than the competition. But don't go at lunch time. You'll have to push your way through many of the uniformed officers from central Texas spending their lunch time browsing and buying.

I’ve never been to one of their stores but have ordered from them online several times. Been extremely pleased every time.

For most of my gear I'd rather make the 10-15 minute drive to GT than order online for a slightly cheaper price... I get to handle each item (which saves me money sometimes) and I get some actual service.

I haven't had a bad experience there and it seems they don't make assumptions about what you need based on the way you look. I went in looking like a high-school dropout once to buy a whole duty rig and nobody batted an eye :smilelol5:

I have to backtrack my good words on GT Distributors. I bought a Beta C-Mag and broght it home to Houston. The C-Mag is defective. It will not load properly and will not fee properly. I contacted GT Distributors by phone and explained the problem. I was told that I have to send the C-Mag to the manufacturer and get a replacement. I thought I would get better service than that. I will not purchase anything else from GT Distributors.

It states in their return policies that used merchandise cannot be returned. What were you expecting them to do?

Littlegun- You are correct. That is unacceptable and we will correct it with a Beta mag from our stock. My question to the sales rep is why would we make a customer deal with a DOA product? Susan Kim who is our customer service assistant manager will call you shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Bravo to Jim and GT for doing the right thing! I have been buying from GT for some time now and no longer shop at other places like Red's (worst) and McBride's (pretty good but ammo prices are exorbitant).
